Sunday, October 29th vs. Vancouver Giants OCTOBER REPORT: Last night’s win versus the Vancouver Giants marked the highest total of wins in October for the franchise with eight. This season, the Royals have held a mark of 8-4-1-0 in the 10th month of the year. Since the franchise moved to Vancouver Island, Victoria has posted a record of 49-32-4-2 in October. The most victories the Royals have earned in a month is 12, which occurred in February, 2016 when Victoria posted a record of 12-1-1-0. SKY’S THE LIMIT: With a goal and an assist last night, Victoria’s Matthew Phillips registered his 200th career WHL point and 100th career WHL helper. This marks that Phillips became the fastest player in franchise history to reach the 200-point plateau and 100-assist benchmark as he accomplished the feats in 160 contests. Alumnus Jack Walker held the previous record with 200 points in 173 games. Recently, Phillips also became the quickest skater in franchise history to score 100 goals as he reached the mark in 158 games. MAGICAL MAN-ADVANTAGE: With their powerplay goal last night, the Royals have now earned 25 markers while on the man-advantage. Victoria currently leads the entire Canadian Hockey League for the most goals scored on the powerplay, ahead of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (21) and Ontario Hockey League’s Sarnia Sting (19). 24-JARRATT GOLD: Royals’ defenceman Ralph Jarratt will be suiting up in his 200th career WHL game tonight versus the Vancouver Giants. The product of Fort St. John, BC has tallied 46 points (8g-38a) in 199 career games over four seasons (2014-18) with the Royals. Jarratt was selected in Round 2, 37th overall, by Victoria in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. FORMER TEAMMATES: Royals’ forward Ryan Peckford and Giants’ defenceman Marcus Kichton have previously spent time as teammates in minor hockey. The pair played together with the Stony Plain Saints Bantam AAA club for two years (2012-2014), as well as the Saint Albert Raiders of the Albert Midget Hockey League during the 2014-15 campaign. In their three seasons of minor hockey together, Peckford amassed 100 points (48g-52a) in 68 contests, while Kichton collected a total of 57 points (10g-47a) in 91 games played. DUB DUO: Victoria’s Matthew Phillips and Vancouver’s Tyler Benson will both be participating at the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series as members of Team WHL. Games for Team WHL will take place on Monday, November 6th and Tuesday, November 7th with Game 1 in Moose Jaw and Game 2 in Swift Current, SK. During the 2013-14 season, Phillips (2g-0a) and Benson (2g-1a) captured the gold medal together at the Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup. PROSPECT REPORT: Victoria's four prospects on the Northern Alberta Xtreme 15’s team of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League Elite 15 all found the scoresheet in their 3-0 win over the Okanagan Hockey Academy 15's yesterday. Nathan Morgan (1g-2a), Ty Yoder (1g), Michael Benning (1a) and Noah Lamb (1a) were all selected by the Royals in May at the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.
