Leroy Merlin, a French leader in the retail DIY market, uses an entirely virtual environment in its own IT departments in Italy and is organized according to a structure that includes 12 physical servers, numerous virtual machines and a main data center running from its central headquarters in Milan. From the data center they can access about 5,600 users—all of the firm’s employees. The data center at Leroy Merlin is currently divided between an external data center managed by a supplier, where you can find the firm’s production, and an internal data center located within the central headquarters that is used for development, testing and pre-production. Leroy Merlin needed a tool that would allow them back up their VMs, be easy to use and could be up and running in a short period of time. In addition, the firm needed to be able to reliably back up very large number of virtual machines and be able to recover data quickly and efficiently.
