There is Too Much Travel in Hockey There is travel in any youth sport, hockey is no different. You mostly travel during the season within Dane County, with a few games a little further out, but not many. You will do a little traveling for tournaments, once your skater gets further along in the program. There are so many great hockey rinks around the Madison area for the teams to use that you will not be getting up at 4 a.m. to make it to the rink in time! When you talk to parents of older hockey players, they will tell you very quickly that they would not trade the time traveling with their kids to hockey games and practices for anything in the world.
Set Up for Success From learning to balance school, responsibilities at home, time at the rink and playing with friends, hockey encourages kids to learn time management skills that will later serve them in all facets of life. Hockey’s unique source of physical fitness promotes healthy living.

Verona Youth Hockey prides itself on creating the best experience for young skaters while keeping fees to a minimum. You can start your young skater in the Learn to Play program, this program runs from November until February and it is only $35 for new skaters! Verona Youth Hockey also has an equipment rental program so you don’t have to invest in equipment for your youth skater until after your child falls in love with the game!

Hockey players wear more protective equipment than any other sport. A study has shown that ice hockey injuries ranked after both basketball and soccer in emergency room visits related to sport and recreational activities. Youth hockey is a different game than the NHL. With a different set of rules in place, youth hockey places a stronger emphasis on sportsmanship and friendly competition. Contact is not allowed prior to the Bantam level (age 13 & 14). At Bantams, checking is allowed but NO fighting.
