Vicki Dyas Raymond, CO Gourd Artist Vicki will be demonstrating gourd carving and embellishing during the Harvest Festival September 1-2, 2012 Old Town Museum’s Heritage Hall. Be sure to stop by! Vicki currently lives with her husband Bill and their mini Aussie – “Kiwi”, in Raymond, CO six months of each year and in Brookdale, CA the other six. Vicki has been involved in art all her life but first got interested in gourds in 1996 when attending a craft festival where she first saw “fine art gourds” and it’s been a love affair ever since.

Aug 31st – Gourd Necklace - $40 – Half day class – 9AM – 12:00 PM

This class is for beginning gourders. In this class students will learn basics such as gourd cleaning and preparation, as well as how to design and complete either a beaded gourd necklace or a knotless net necklace. Students may dye their necklaces or leave natural and embellish them . Students will learn how to make adjustable neck cords for their necklaces. The class will include tips and handouts about the process as well as a list of online gourd suppliers and gourd art. All supplies will be provided and there will be a $5 materials fee to be paid in class.

HERITAGE FESTIVAL GOURD CLASS TENERIFE GOURD : Teacher Vicki Dyas Half day afternoon class

Vicki has a BS degree in Art and Education and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. Over the years, she has worked with a number of art media but finally found her “artistic home” with gourds. The surface or shape of a gourd can become a palette for almost every other fine art so the creative excitement never dulls. Vicki’s passion however is not only in the creation of gourd art but also in the teaching of this unique medium to others. She loves seeing people discover the creative potential of a gourd and encourages anyone who might be fascinated to take a class and unlock the secrets of “gourding”.

Aug 31st – Tenerife Gourd - $40 – Half day class – 1PM – 4:00 PM This class is for beginning gourders. In this class students will learn basics such as gourd cleaning and preparation, as well as how to design and complete a woven Tenerife gourd. Students will dye their gourds and weave a Tenerife pattern around a donut stone . The class will include tips and handouts about the process as well as a list of online gourd suppliers and gourd art. All supplies will be provided and there will be a $15 materials fee to be paid in class.
