Vintage car parade gets a special guest By Charlotte Fay-Fineran Vintage vehicles which hit the road in aid of charity at the weekend were joined by a famous four-wheeled star from the ITV show Heartbeat. The 17th Vale of Avalon Vintage Vehicle Road Run took place on Saturday, June 5. The event, which is organised by Den and Daphne Stone of Glastonbury, allows the public to see rare and vintage cars while donating money to charity. Mr Stone said: “Everyone is always friendly. There is never any bad language or bitterness between anyone which means there is a wonderful atmosphere where you can make new friends and catch up with old ones.”

Den Stickland of Bruton with a 1966 AEC Mandator Mk 5 Despite the disappointing weather, around 118 vehicles turned up. Mr Stone said: “We hoped we would get more people joining in than we did, but everyone who did it enjoyed it and nobody broke down which is good.” The car from Heart-

beat was among the many vehicles that drove to Burnham-on-Sea, including an AC Royal Navy Tanker painted yellow and fire engines from Street, Wells and Shepton Mallet. An estimated £1,500 has been raised for MacMillan Cancer Support.
