BEFORE YOU BEGIN Read all instructions before beginning project. Do not prewash fabrics. Before cutting, press fabrics with a dry iron on cotton setting; remove selvages. SEWING 1. Follow Diagram A to arrange the rectangles (4 ½" x 8 ½") in columns. Pin and sew RST. Press seams in each column in opposite directions. Each column should measure 8 ½" x 64 ½". Pin a label with the column number at the top of each column. Dia. A Column 1

2. Pin and sew the columns together, nesting intersecting seams. Press the seams in one direction. The quilt top should measure 56 ½" x 64 ½". 3. Refer to Diagram B to sew two Cotton Print (36" x 42") and four 10 ¼" x 36" rectangles RST to make a 61 ½" x 71 ½" backing. Press the seams to the sides and the back smooth and flat. 4. Layer the backing wrong side up, the batting and top right side up. Starting at the center, baste the layers together with safety pins.

5. Quilt the three layers together vertically and horizontally by “stitching-in-the ditch” as shown in red in Diagram C. Then quilt from corner to corner of each rectangle, forming an inverted “V” in the center blocks, or quilt as desired. Stitch around the outside ¼" from the edge. Square up corners and edges, trimming excess backing and batting even with the quilt top. Dia. C
6. Remove selvages from the six Black binding strips (2 ½" x 42") and sew the short ends RST end to end to make one continuous strip; press seams open. Press one short end ¼" to the wrong side. Fold in half lengthwise with wrong sides together; press. Leaving a 2" tail on the folded end, pin the cut edges of the folded binding even with the edge of the quilt top. Sew using a ¼" seam allowance and mitering the corners (Dia. D). Overlap ends, trim any excess and finish sewing the binding. Fold binding over to the back and hand stitch in place.

FINISHED CARE INSTRUCTIONS Wash in cold water, gentle cycle. Lay flat to dry or tumble dry on low.
