RANKINGS - TEAM

// BANNER BEARCATS The American Athletic Conference released its postseason accolades on Tuesday, Nov. 29, honoring five Bearcats with seven different awards, including three major conference awards.

(as of 12/7/16) THE AMERICAN

Sophomore Jordan Thompson was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, becoming the first-ever unanimous selection for the award. The rightside hitter led the league in kills per set (4.84), points per set (5.42), total kills (552), total points (618.0) and total attacks (1,309). Sophomore Jade Tingelhoff earned the conference setter of the year honors after ranking second amongst American setters with 11.11 assists per set in conference play while quarterbacking her team to a league-high .265 hitting percentage. Additionally, she recorded 11 double-doubles on the year with an average of 2.64 digs per set. Head coach Molly Alvey earned the first coach of the year honor of her career after guiding the Bearcats to a second-place finish in The American and the team’s 11th overall trip to the NCAA tournament. The fifth-year coach led UC to its second-straight 20-win season and two streaks of 10 consecutive set victories, a feat that had not been accomplished since 2010.

The outside hitter earned her secondconsecutive first team honor after finishing second on the team in both kills per set (3.26) and digs per set (2.73). Rounding out the all-conference honors was senior Ciara Hill who caps her career on the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team. The outside hitter has played every set for the Bearcats this season while compiling 320 kills and for a 2.81 kills per set ratio to rank 10th in the league for conference matches. // RACE TO 1K On Nov. 25, 2016, Jordan Thompson became the 18th player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills when she did so in the third set of a 3-1 victory over Memphis. She broke a program and American Athletic Conference record as the quickest player to 1,000 career kills and the only player to ever reach the milestone as a sophomore. // TOUGH TESTS If the only way to get better is to play quality teams, the Bearcats did just that to open the 2016 schedule. After starting the year at Tennessee, Cincinnati faced a pair of teams receiving votes in the AVCA Top-25 Coaches Poll at the Shockers Volleyball Classic, beating Wichita State on its home floor. The schedule did not get any lighter at the Holiday Inn University Plaza Invitational when UC faced off against Michigan State (the first team receiving votes in the poll) and No. 23 Western Kentucky as well as a tough Southern Illinois team which was ranked No. 18 in the inaugural VolleyballMag.com mid-major poll. // BEARCATS BLOCKERS Cincinnati recorded 18.0 blocks in a 3-1 win over Middle Tennessee State on Aug. 27 at the DISH Tennessee Classic. The total was the most for any UC team since November 16, 2007, when it tallied 18.5 blocks in a 3-1 loss to Notre Dame. Alison Kimmel earned a career-high nine blocks while Maya Muldrow tied a career best with eight. Elly Ogle (six), Ciara Hill (six), Jordan Thompson (four) and Carly Nolan (three) also got in on the blocking action. // NATIONAL DUTY Two members of the Bearcats volleyball team were named to the U.S. Collegiate National Team which toured China this past summer. Thompson was selected to the 12-player roster while assistant coach Phillip White was picked as a member of the coaching staff. The squad, which was part of USA Volleyball’s High Performance pipeline, trained and competed in a series of matches from June 18July 1 in three different Chinese cities.
