Volunteer Bond Program FAQ Q1: A1:
What is the LSC Volunteer Bond Program? The LSC Volunteer Bond Program is a way to encourage LSC traveling soccer team families to meet the volunteer needs of maintaining a successful Club program. At the beginning of the season, families must write a check for the amount of the Volunteer Bond. If volunteer obligations are met, the check will not be cashed. If volunteer obligations are not met, then the check will be cashed.
Q2: A2:
Why is there an LSC Volunteer Bond? The LSC Volunteer Bond Program has been introduced to encourage LSC families to step forward and get involved in our Club to help make it a success. By collectively helping out, we can provide a safe and fun environment for everyone involved.
Q3: A3:
How much is the Volunteer Bond? The Volunteer Bond is $150 per each family participating in the LSC Spring Traveling Soccer program. (Note: for blended families defined as step-siblings residing in more than one household, the Volunteer Bond will be payable per household/address; if step-siblings reside in one household at the same address, that constitutes as one family, and thus only one Volunteer Bond payment would be assessed).
Q4: A4:
Why is the Volunteer Bond Program being implemented now? Each year there are numerous volunteer opportunities that need to be filled, and there are always challenges filling all of those positions. Generally, there is a group of families who regularly volunteer, while there are other families who do not participate at all. The hope is that by having a Volunteer Bond, more families will step forward in support of the Club throughout the year.
Q5: A5:
Is the Volunteer Bond mandatory? Yes. However, keep in mind that only the check is mandatory, not the payment. To ensure the Volunteer Bond check is not cashed, the family simply needs to complete a tracked volunteer opportunity during the Volunteer Bond Program Year.
Q6: A6:
Is anyone exempt from paying the Volunteer Bond? Yes, Coaches, Assistant Coaches (with passes), and Team Managers are all exempt (limit of three exemptions per team) given they already spend numerous hours volunteering their time in support of our Club and players. Being an LSC Board Member also meets the volunteer commitment. In addition, families who register only for Fall Traveling Soccer, In-House, or Tournament-only teams will be exempt as this Volunteer Bond relates to the Spring Traveling Soccer season

Volunteer Bond Program FAQ Q7: A7:
How will the Volunteer Bond payment be collected? Spring Traveling Team Managers will collect the Volunteer Bond payment from each family. Given the bond is per family, not per player, only the Team Manager of the oldest player in the Club, will need to collect the bond. The Club Admin will be providing a list to all Spring Traveling Team Managers showing which families will need to submit a Volunteer Bond payment. Checks received will be documented by the Team Manager and passed onto the Club to hold during the Spring season.
Q8:
What happens if a family does not pay the Volunteer Bond by providing a check to the Team Manager? Player passes will not be issued to any of the players in the family until a Volunteer Bond check is received by the Team Manager for the oldest participating child. Bottom line, a player cannot participate in a Spring Traveling Soccer game until the family pays the Volunteer Bond.

Q9: A9:
What happens to my Volunteer Bond if my player drops out of the Spring Traveling Soccer program? The check will be returned or destroyed upon request if the player drops prior to the official start of the Spring Traveling Soccer season per the MYSA calendar (the first day of play for the season).
Q10: A10:
How should Volunteer Bond payments be made? Only checks will be accepted. Families should pay via a separate check than funds paid to support team tournaments, etc. Please make checks payable to ‘LSC’ with ‘Volunteer Bond’ in the memo field.
Q11: A11:
When should Volunteer Bond payments be made? Team Managers will be requested to turn in all Volunteer Bond checks by March 15, to be held by the Club. Therefore, Team Managers will be reaching out to all families to ensure checks are received by the end of February or early March.
Q12: A12:
When will the Volunteer Bond check be cashed? The check will only be cashed at the end of the Spring Traveling Soccer season – within the July timeframe - for those families that did not participate in a tracked volunteer opportunity.
Q13: A13:
How will families be notified if/when the Volunteer Bond check will be cashed? Families who did not volunteer will be notified around the July timeframe that their check will be cashed, providing at least 2 weeks’ notice prior to the Club cashing the checks. For checks that bounce, the LSC will seek payment from the family to cover such bank fees in addition to the Bond amount. Any outstanding Volunteer Bond payments will be carried over to the next travel season and will need to be settled prior to being able to participate in Spring Traveling Soccer evaluations or team placement. Families who did complete a tracked volunteer opportunity will have their check destroyed upon meeting their volunteer commitment.

Volunteer Bond Program FAQ Q14: A14:
What is the timing of the volunteer season? The Volunteer Bond Program will be effective beginning with the 2015 LSC Spring Traveling Soccer season. The Volunteer Bond Program Year will align with the spring season, beginning with evaluations and ending with the state tournament. Those who volunteer during the evaluation process at the end of July will have met their volunteer obligation for the year. However, checks will still be collected along with all other families, to reduce administrative tracking for Team Managers.
Q15: A15:
What is the volunteer requirement per family? Each family must complete one (1) volunteer assignment. Most opportunities generally require a 2-3 hour commitment, but do vary.
Q16:
If a family volunteers twice during one volunteer year, can that count for volunteer requirements for this season and next season? No, each Volunteer Bond Program Year is tracked separately.
A16: Q17: A17:
What if a family doesn’t want to volunteer or is too busy to volunteer? Although volunteering is highly encouraged, families are not required to volunteer. Families can opt out of volunteering by paying the Volunteer Bond.

Families will be directed to the LSC website at lakevillesoccer.org to sign up. LSC will utilize an online volunteer tracking program to track volunteers. Only completed volunteer opportunities will count.

Volunteer Bond Program FAQ Q20: A20:
Who is considered a qualifying family member to volunteer? A volunteer must be 18 years or older to qualify. Although younger family members are welcome to help out in addition to an adult, the volunteer slot must be filled by an adult, including parent, grandparent or older sibling. Because one of the goals is to get more families involved, families cannot volunteer on behalf of another family.
Q21:
What happens if families intend to volunteer but there are no opportunities available when the family is available? There will be hundreds of opportunities to help throughout the year that will qualify. Volunteer opportunities will be filled on a first-come, first served basis, so families will want to be sure to fulfill a volunteer assignment before the year ends. LSC will not be responsible for finding volunteer tasks for parents. Instead, parents must take responsibility to sign up for and complete a volunteer task that will meet their obligation. If a family does not meet the volunteer obligation, the check will be cashed.

Q22: A22:
What will LSC do with any money collected? To be clear, LSC is not instituting the Volunteer Bond to raise revenue. The Volunteer Bond is being created to encourage more parents to volunteer. Money collected will go into the general LSC Club funds and will be used if we need to pay part-time help to fill jobs not covered by parent volunteers.
