Volunteer Title: Volunteer Tutor Location: 1092 Speers Road, Oakville, ON L6L 2X4 Time: Every Monday (excluding holiday’s) from 3:00-6:00pm Duties for the volunteer position Assist newcomer youth with their daily homework assignments Assist newcomer youth in the essay writing and editing process Assist newcomer youth with writing assignments for courses such as: History, Geography, Civics & Careers, Social Studies, COMM (Communication) college courses etc. Help newcomer youth build their vocabulary and writing skills Benefits for the volunteer Build your teaching skills Work with youth from a diverse community Reference letter upon request for volunteer hours earned Clients Served Newcomer youth in Oakville between the ages of 13 and 24 Availability Monday's throughout the months of February, March, April, May & June 2013 Between the hours of 3pm-6pm Requirements Police Security Clearance + Vulnerable Sector Screening required (Police Clearances are valid for 1 year after the “Date Issued” noted on the bottom of the Clearance) Comfortable working and interacting with newcomer youth between the ages of 13 and 24 Access to a reliable vehicle (no compensation for mileage) Good time management skills Good organizational skills Excellent command of the English language (reading, writing, speaking) Youth friendly and approachable Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred Application Process – If you are not already a HMC volunteer Attend one of our monthly Information Sessions Submit a copy of your current resume, complete a Volunteer Application Form, provide a valid Police Security Clearance + Vulnerable Sector Screening Attend applicable training session(s) If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, please contact: Martina Prpa – Community Connections Program Youth Worker E:
