Opening Serve Gettysburg hosts Susquehanna in a non-confernece contest today inside Bream Gym. The Series Gettysburg is 23-5 against Susquehanna since the series began in 1981. The River Hawks have won three of the last four meetings. Last Meeting The Bullets took the opening set 25-23, but the River Hawks swept the final thre 25-18, 2514, and 25-17 last fall. Susquehanna pounded down 51 kills against just seven errors over the final three sets. Laura Bergin ’17 tallied 14 kills to lead the Bullets, while Kasey Higgins ’20 posted 10. Stephanie Blair ’18 paced the defensive effort with 23 digs and put up 37 assists. Maddie Weikert ’18 and Katherine Gilbert ’18 each recorded 17 digs. Last Time Out Gettysburg dispatched Bryn Mawr 3-0 (256, 25-8, 25-20) last Saturday. Freshman Allie Stranick led a well-balanced attack with eight kills. Freshman Maddie Buerle added six kills, while sophomore Caroline Sequeira paved the way defensively with seven digs. Junior Rachel Gombatz finished with 10 assists.
Hot Start Gettysburg is off to its best start in over two decades. The last time the Bullets won 16 of the first 17 matches was in 1996. That year the squad opened 30-1 on the way to capturing the Centennial Conference title and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. Milestone Watch Senior Stephanie Blair is just 56 assists away from 3,000 for her career. She would be the fifth Bullet to reach the milestone, joining Nicole Evans ’01 (4,580), Shannon Smith ’06 (4,332), Amanda Krampf ’10 (3,800), and Lauren Boyd ’03 (3,749). Scouting Susquehanna... ● Susquehanna swept its opening matches in the Landmark Conference. The River Hawks took down Catholic 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-19) and Goucher 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-18). Morgan Lowe totaled 27 kills with just one hitting error in 50 attempts. Helen Forman posted 65 assists and Caroline Beohm logged 28 digs in the two matches. ● Morgan Lowe ranks fourth in the Landmark Confernece in kills per set (3.65). She has connected on double-digit kills in all but three matches, including a season-high 20 three times. Lowe has also turned in nine double-doubles.
