The University of North Florida men’s tennis team will welcome back several familiar, important faces in 2007-08 while also welcoming several newcomers to the mix. The Ospreys finished 12-7 overall and 7-1 in Atlantic Sun Conference play in 2006-07 — the program’s second season at the Division I level. The Ospreys finished second in the Atlantic Sun Conference, with their only loss to eventual champion East Tennessee State. UNF head coach Igal Buberman discussed his team’s outlook for the 200708 season during a recent question-and-answer session:

How does losing three key seniors from last season’s squad affect the team? “It always makes it a little harder losing some experienced players. “I think this team has trained a lot harder during the fall, and even though we have a younger team, we will face the season a lot better prepared.” Who will be the key returning players for this year's team? “Eduardo Pereira has been playing really good tennis, and Javier Ferrin has shown tremendous leadership. I think the key is not to focus on key players, but in competing as a team to get the four points for the victory.”

We “We are looking forward have a couple of new players on the men's side to seeing Alejandro Argumedo and Adrian that will help the lineup tremendously. We anticiEscarate compete this spring. We know we can pate having a very deep lineup that will give us count on Graham Edgar and Kurt Gattiker at the an opportunity to contend for a national ranking, bottom of the lineup, but I believe Alejandro has as well as an Atlantic Sun Conference champithe potential to play strong in the middle of the onship.” lineup right away.” What are you goals for your team this season? “Our goals for this season are the same as every year. We want to get ranked as high as possible and finish the conference season undefeated. Since we are not eligible for NCAA postseason play due to our program reclassifying (from Division II to Division I), our ultimate goal is to win the conference title and take the one championship that we are eligible to win.”

Who will your toughest tests come against this spring? “The schedule got a lot tougher overall. We always try to make it as competitive as possible, and (assistant coach Rodrigo Puebla) did a very good job at setting up this year's opponents. They will all be good opponents.” What are the team’s strengths? “Hard work, team spirit and determination. This is one of the most determined groups of kids that I have had in a long time.”
