Wyoming Cowboy Basketball Postgame Quotes Wyoming Head Coach Larry Shyatt Opening statement….. “That was huge. We’ve been hoping for two years we could get 8-9 thousand people back in here and have them have some fun. The next goal was to get them here to watch us and not our opponent. We need them every night now. Pretty tough facility. It adds to your defense and adds to your passion. Kudos to our fans that showed up tonight. We really appreciate that. Can’t say enough about these guys. At halftime we talked about defense, rhythm and using physicality. We really didn’t make a whole lot of offensive adjustments, except we knew they would go to some trapping at some point so spacing was important. A lot of things went right, but the most impressive thing was a defensive efficiency rating of 0.3. That means every time they touched the ball they made 0.3 points. That is incredible because I have the utmost respect for their players and coaches, but also how they play. I thought our guys did a great job of changing up their rhythm.” On the start of the second half…. “You can’t have runs in basketball unless you get stops. You want to go on an 8-0 or 10-0 run, that side is just as important. I thought every guy we put in the game had their skull cap on from a defensive standpoint. And then it got a little easier when we spread it out a little, because we could space the floor.” On the physicality of the offense… “22 assists on 22 baskets is pretty good against a team who played two very good ball clubs, Auburn and Drexel, and was holding opponents to something like 26 percent from the field and 21 percent from three. Not to take anything away from our offense, but you throw some 33s on a score sheet this season and you are going to get some wins. Colorado Head Coach Tad Boyle Opening statement... “First of all, my hats goes off to Wyoming tonight. It wasn’t even close. It was an old-fashion butt whipping. They whipped us in every conceivable way. Our guys got down because we couldn’t make a shot and it bled over to our defense. We gave up 57 percent in the second half and 52 percent for the game, while we made two shots in the second half. They were better than us tonight in every way. I can say we were bad, but Wyoming had a lot to do with that. For us to beat good teams, we are going to have to play better than we did tonight. It’s embarrassing.” On the start to the second half… “When they start the second half like that, you know teams in their own building and the crowd was great, you knew they were going to make a run. They were going to make a couple threes. They shot the ball well from three. We were late all night getting to their guys. We wanted to pressure the ball and get into their guys a little bit. You let them move and run their offense side-to-side and you are eventually going to break down and we did. Mentally we weren’t very tough tonight. You don’t get beat like that on the road if you are mentally tough.” On if he was pleased going into halftime… “Yes, with the way we shot the ball, but we couldn’t make a pass. They are such a better passing team than we are. I mean they had 22 assists and eight turnovers and we had six assists and 12 turnovers. Passing was our Achilles’ heel last year as a team and it reared its head today. We want to try and do everything off the dribble and you can’t do that. You have to be able to move the ball.”
