S Santa Ana Unified School District Santa Ana Unified School District High School Athletic Wall of Fame PART I – ESTABLISHMENT OF WALL OF FAME 1.0
Name The name of the organization shall be the High School Athletic Wall of Fame (herein after referred to as the “Wall of Fame”), a program under the jurisdiction of each high school athletic department of SAUSD.

Purpose The Wall of Fame is organized as a way of maintaining the rich heritage and tradition of the successful athletic programs at each district high school. In addition, it will serve as a means of recognizing, preserving, and honoring the athletes, teams, coaches, and individuals who made significant contributions to the athletic programs.

Wall of Fame Committee The Wall of Fame for each district high school shall be governed by the Wall of Fame Selection Committee and shall consist of a minimum of four (4) members from the following groups: Athletic Director/s Principal A former or current Administrator Appointees (appointed by the Chairperson and approved by the Selection Committee. No more than three (3) additional appointees may be named to the Selection Committee. Appointees may include current and/or past teachers and/or coaches, and members of the school boosters. Consensus would be needed for all decisions. If consensus cannot be reached, then a vote would be taken that would require a majority vote of 75% of those in attendance. A quorum should be present in order for any business to be transacted. A quorum shall be 80% of the committee. The annual decision
making processes of the Selection Committee shall remain confidential. Prior publicity concerning nominees is not appropriate. The Selection Committee shall release pertinent information concerning the inductees. 4.0
Criteria for Nomination and Selection of Inductees In order to maintain the integrity of the Wall of Fame, nominees must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and moral character. All candidates will be judged on their significant contributions to the high school’s athletic program. In addition, as much as possible, acknowledged leadership in his/her chosen field of community, state, and national presence will be considered. Candidates may be nominated as a player, a coach, a team or contributor. Candidates may not nominate themselves. All entries must be submitted on the official SAUSD Athletic Wall of Fame Nomination Form by November 15 of the current school year. The nomination form shall be available through the Athletic Director's office, the high school office or the school website. Each school’s selection/s will take place by the December 15 and induction shall be held by March 15.

Nomination As A Player A Wall of Fame Candidate shall not be considered for the Wall of Fame until a minimum of five (5) years after graduation from high school. 5.1 Any athlete who distinguished herself/himself in the field of athletics at the varsity level at the high school above and beyond the normal standards. a) This could include establishing individual school, conference, state, or national records or championships. b) Selection to all conference, all county, all CIF, all state honors or qualifying as an individual in state competition. c) Being recognized as an all-around athlete in high school in any sport while attaining all-conference team selections or while leading teams to league championships.

Nomination of a Coach A former or current coach (head coach or assistant coach) with at least ten (10) years of service at the nominating school, who has contributed to the success of the high school’s athletes and whose teams have been recognized at the league, county, CIF and State levels may be considered as a candidate to the Wall of Fame.

Selection of Teams The Wall of Fame Selection Committee may choose to select teams for induction into the school’s Athletic Wall of Fame. To be selected teams must somehow
have distinguished themselves above and beyond normal standards. These may include: undefeated seasons, league championships, regional championships, CIF championships and state tournament appearances. The Wall of Fame Selection Committee shall select not more than one team in any one year, with the exception of inaugural year, and may choose not to select any team. To be considered for selection, at least five (5) years must have passed since the year of the qualifying teams’ most current achievement. 8.0
Nomination as a Contributor An individual who has made outstanding contributions to the interscholastic athletic programs at any or all of the high schools other than playing or coaching can be considered for induction. Contribution to athletic program/s for at least ten (10) years would be the criteria. Any person who has been nominated and met selection criteria will be reviewed by the selection committee and if not selected to Wall of Fame in a given year will have their nomination form kept on file to be reviewed yearly for possible consideration for a period of five (5) years. Thereafter, re-nomination may occur at any time. The chairman, or appointee, will notify any nominators if nominee was or was not selected. In the event a selection committee member or a relative thereof becomes a nominee, the selection committee member will not be present during that discussion and decision making process and/or voting.

Induction With the exception of the inaugural class, the class of inductees shall regularly not number more than five (5) per year. After selection to the Wall of Fame, the new members will be inducted by March 15 at a ceremony to be determined.

Induction Details A Wall of Fame will be located on each high school campus. All nominees selected to receive this honor will be recognized with a nameplate that lists their individual or team information. For example: Name, graduation date and sport or sports contributed to. At the induction ceremony honorees will receive a memento. In the event of an honored team there will be one plate and one plaque. Ceremony to be determined ie: Homecoming Game halftime, other football game, Basketball game halftime, etc. In addition, a luncheon or dinner may be part of the induction ceremony.

Selection Committee details Other possible Selection Committee members may come from other community/school groups such as: Local business owner/community leader, Booster Club members, Alumni or anyone that the chair may choose to appoint. Appointment should be by consensus of Selection Committee. All Selection Committee members shall serve for a two (2) year term initially. All members may be re-appointed for two year terms by the Athletic Director/s at the conclusion of their initial term. However, the Athletic Directors may appoint new members at their discretion.

Nomination form and application details Each high school’s nomination form will be available on their individual website. The school nomination form will be due by November 15 of each school year and selection/s will be completed by December 15. Induction into the high school Wall of Fame will take place by March 15. When the nomination form is completed, received by due date, time stamped and nominee meets general requirements, the school’s Wall of Fame Selection Committee will meet and begin discussion and the selection process. The nominator will be notified as to the results of the Selection Committee’s decisions by the committee chairperson or appointee.
Santa Ana Unified High School Athletic Wall of Fame PART II WALL OF FAME NOMINATION FORM As a community member and interested individual, you are invited to nominate past high school athletes, coaches, teams or contributors that you believe have made significant contributions to high school athletics. The Athletic Department will accept nominations for induction into the wall of fame from July 1st through April 1st of each year. Those honored will be inducted the following school year. 1.0
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION The Nominee must have exemplified, during and following his/her high school career, the pride and spirit that is high school and: 1.1
ATHLETE: If an athlete, the candidate must be a high school graduate and out of high school for at least five (5) years. Recognition at the school, league, county, CIF, and state levels will be considered.

COACH: If a coach, the candidate must have coached at the high school for at least ten (10) years. Recognition of teams coached at the league, county, CIF and state levels will be considered.

TEAM: If a team, five (5) years must have passed since the team's qualifying achievement(s). Recognition as to: team records, league championships, regional championships, CIF championships and state tournament appearances will be considered.

CONTRIBUTOR: The candidate must be a member of the community/school (and not categorized above), who has made significant contributions to high school athletics over a period of at least ten (10) years.
