RICK WILLIAMS ERIC AKIN
CAMP STAFF Tyler Grayson Tyler Grayson is currently an assistant coach with Brown University wrestling after joining the program in August of 2011 and garnered first assistant status in August of 2014. A four-year letter winner at Central Michigan, Grayson was an NCAA Qualifier in 2010 with the Chippewas and a 2010 MidAmerican Conference Champion. While with the Bears, Grayson has helped mentor four NCAA qualifying wrestlers in Justin Staudenmayer ’17 (2015), Ophir Bernstein ’15 (2012-15), Billy Watterson ’15 (2013), and Dave Foxen ’12 (2012). He aided Ophir Bernstein in earning All-America honors in 2014, becoming Brown’s first wrestler to earn such honors in 16 years. During the 2011-12 year, he served as an assistant coach at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, KS, a program that boasts eight National Championships and 45 All-Americans at the JUCO level. At Neosho, Grayson helped direct the Panthers to a sixth-place tie as a team at the NJCAA Districts and qualified four wrestlers for Nationals. After graduating and becoming a 2X Missouri state champion at Winnetonka High School in Gladstone, MO, Grayson headed north to Central Michigan where he compiled 31 wins in his first three seasons. His senior year he finished with a 20-7 overall mark and 13-2 dual meet record on his way to a conference championship at 165 pounds. Grayson is also a two-time Midlands placer (sixth and eighth), two-time University Nationals placer (second and seventh), and an All-American as well as a 2X Missouri high school state champion.
Dom Bradley Dom Bradley is currently an active competitor in USA Wrestling. Dom is a graduate of Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, MO where he was a 3X Missouri state champion, ranked #1 in the nation as senior and was named to the Asics First Team Dream Team. He continued his illustrious wrestling career at the University of Missouri. Ranked periodically among the top-25 heavyweights in the nation, Bradley finished his first competitive year with a 17-3 record that included four wins over top-20 ranked grapplers and two against 2009 All-Americans. During the summer of 2009, Bradley showcased his mat skills, claiming the Junior Freestyle World Championship, the FILA Junior Team Trials, the FILA Junior Nationals title, finishing third at the Senior World Team Trials and fourth at the U.S. Senior Nationals. Dom capped off his first year as the starter in the Tiger lineup with All-America honors, as he finished in third place at the 2011 NCAA Championships. After taking an Olympic redshirt season, Bradley would again earn All-America honors with a fourth place finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships, ending his final season at Mizzou with a record of 39-3 as well as going 17-1 in duals would put him at fifth place all-time in Mizzou Wrestling history for winning percentage in a season, behind Ben Askren, Shepard Pittman, and teammate Alan Waters. His 62 dual points was first for the team, tied with Waters. His career record closed out at 105-15 with 14 major decisions, 13 falls and 4 technical falls. Most recently, Dom finished third in the freestyle division 125kg weight class during the USA Wrestling Olympic Team Trials, plans to continue wrestling and try again during the 2020 qualifying cycle for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Rick Williams Rick Williams is currently a successful businessman as a co-owner of a roofing and construction company, a sourcing company and a sports apparel company. Williams is a graduate of Oak Park High School in Kansas City, MO where he was a 3X Missouri state champion. Before Rick headed to Iowa State University, he also was an Asics All-American, Asics All-American HM, Cadet National Champion, Junior National Champion, Junior National Runner-Up, 5x HS Freestyle/Greco All-American, and the 1987 Cadet World Bronze Medalist. While wrestling for the Cyclones, Williams was the 1992 Big 8 Bronze Medalist and NCAA Qualifier the same year. The following year he was the Big 8 Runner Up and NCAA Qualifier. After his sophomore year, Rick transferred to Lindenwood University in St Charles, MO where he became a back-to-back NAIA National Champion in 1995 and 1996. As an international competitor, Rick achieved an 8th place finish at the 1999 US Open Freestyle Championships. As a wrestling coach, Williams has had stops at Kemper Military Jr. College (Booneville, MO), Neosho County Community College (Chanute, KS), Competitors/Oak Park HS, and Platte County High School (Platte City, MO). He and his wife Jodi have 3 daughters (Brett, Kylee and Jayde) and one son (Jonah). In his personal time, Rick leads a men’s bible study and a family bible study.
Eric Akin Eric Akin is currently the head wrestling coach at St Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, Kansas. Few Kansas wrestlers have achieved as many accolades in their wrestling careers as Akin. The 3X Kansas State High School Champion from Bishop Miege High School (Shawnee Mission, KS) followed up his prep career competing for the Iowa State University Cyclones. While competing for the Cyclones, Akin was a three time Big 8 Champion, 4X NCAA All-American, and an NCAA Division I Finalist in 1994. His accomplishments awarded him the 1994 Iowa State University “Male Athlete of the Year” honor and the 1994 KWCA “College Wrestler of the Year” award. Akin continued his successful wrestling career by becoming a 2X University National Freestyle Champion and a 5X US Open National Freestyle Finalist and a US Open National Freestyle Champion. He was a United States Olympic Team alternate both in 1996 and 2000. Also, he was a USA World Team member and a Goodwill Games Gold Member. During this time he won a World Cup Silver Medal and was a Pan American Games Champion. Akin is the son of Kansas wrestling icon, John Akin, who founded the legendary East Kansas Wrestling Club where Eric has been active. The East Kansas Wrestling Club has yielded several division one finalists, multiple All-Americans and three Olympic Team alternates. Eric and his wife, Stephanie have four children.
