WAUKEE BOND REFERENDUM The Waukee Board of Education will be calling for a special election to be held on February 4, 2014 for the sale of $18 million in general obligation bonds that would be used to fund construction of a new elementary school at the intersection of Dartmoor and Douglas Parkway in the city of Waukee. General obligation tax bonds are used to build schools and additions. The amount of bonding capacity within a district is determined by its debt and its ability to pay off the debt. Bonds cannot be sold without voter approval at an election called a referendum. This bond referendum requires a 60 percent super-majority “YES” vote to pass. If approved, construction on the new elementary school would begin in 2014 with completion estimated for 2016.
