WBLAYH Girls 8U Program 2017-2018 Joining the Girls 8U teams is an exciting opportunity for your girls! Many have played with the boys during clinic or mite seasons and are ready to play with all girls. There are many misconceptions surrounding the 8U level that can be answered below. Please read though this document to understand the U8 teams better: 1) Will we have a 8U All Girls Team: YES! We are planning to have three to four teams based on registration – Orange is similar to a Mite 4; Black is similar to a Mite 3; White is similar to a Mite 2 and Grey is similar to a Mite 1. 2) Time Commitment: The average ice time per week will be 2-3 sessions for the Orange level and 2 per week for the White/Grey level. The 8U’s follow the mite practice schedule. We may occasionally add in or substitute outdoor ice to save money and it’s fun for the players! Stick handling at the WBSC Dryland center may also be added in from time to time, another fun way to learn hockey skills. 3) Cost: The cost for 8U is the same as being on a mite level team. Typical team fees average $250$300.00. You can help keep team fees lower by helping with team fundraising events or sponsorships – talk to your team manager to find out how to help. 4) Tryouts / Grading: With having four 8U teams – we will need to grade all players to place them with players of similar abilities. More information will follow on how and when grading will be. Grading follows the same process as mite grading. 5) Locker Room: At this level, players and parents are allowed in the locker rooms together. Please have your daughters dress appropriately under their hockey gear. If they need to change clothing they will need to go to the rest room to do so. Starting at the 10U level men are NOT allowed in the girls locker rooms. 6) Games: Games will be played during the course of the season in a cross-ice format with other teams within District 2, following the same guidelines for the mite games. Travel to Mahtomedi, Stillwater, Forest Lake etc will happen a few times throughout the season but not on a regular basis. Teams will also participate MN Hockey approved D2 jamboree’s as they are available. No more than 6 full ice games are allowed starting Jan 1st through the end of the season. We are looking to host our own 8U Jamboree this season as well! 7) Parent volunteer duties: As a parent, you will be relied on by your team to volunteer for a variety of team needs. This ranges from manager duties, concession stand hours and fundraising to name a few. 8) Will my girl learn as much as she would playing with the boys?: Yes, many girls actually learn more and enjoy playing with all girls more than when they play with the boys.
