OPENING PRAYER PASTOR’S REPORT The PTO was congratulated for a successful gala; its role in developing new connections and bringing the community together was highlighted. The second graders will celebrate their First Communion this Saturday, May 14th. An update on church construction was provided: o After reviewing our proposal, the county zoning board voted unanimously to support the church rebuild. o Once 50% of the funds needed are in-hand, construction can begin. The estimated cost is four million and we have currently raised two million. Construction could begin as early as next spring. o A ‘come and see’ weekend will eventually be planned, which will involve bringing the architects to the church to show parishioners the computerized design and answer questions before or after Mass. Bishop Loverde will celebrate Mass at Saint Ambrose on Saturday, June 18th at 5:00pm to recognize the parish’s 50th anniversary. School participation will include students in uniform at Mass, the invitation of former faculty and alumni to attend, and the student honor guard directing parishioners.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Twenty children are currently enrolled in pre-K with 9 more potential students. There are 190 students enrolled in K-8th. Our eighth grade teacher, Mr. Scaffone, will not be returning next year. We are currently working on a replacement. FACULTY REPRESENTATIVE’S REPORT Career Day is this Friday, May 13th. 06/03: Super & Pizza Day o Grades K, 4 and 8 will be celebrating Super Day o Grades 1, 3 and 6 will be celebrating Pizza Day o It is unclear who is organizing these events. Planning includes games and crafts for Super Day and ordering pizza and purchasing ice cream for Pizza Day. o Kim will contact Sue Bogan to inquire if Sue is planning Super Day, otherwise we will need to find a volunteer to do so (K, 4th and 8th). o We need a volunteer to order pizzas and buy ice cream for Pizza Day (1st, 3rd, 6th). Marcia asked if the PTO is still reimbursing teacher education. The budget allots $670 for staff development and training this FY (which ends July 1st). Marcia will figure out which teachers are participating in a training session and the price requirements. SECRETARY’S REPORT Action Items from the 04-09-2016 PTO meeting minutes were reviewed: o The $75 contribution to the Diocesan Science Fair was sent. o The Shakespeare dinner is funded through the school budget although in the past the PTO paid for the Diocesan Shakespeare Festival registration fee. Mrs. Rowley requested that the $60 allotted for the festival registration be used toward the school’s own Shakespeare week that will be held in lieu of participating in the Diocesan festival. o The Ana Maria Cordoba Essay Contest will continue this year but the tuition break was decreased to $500. 5K REPORT We currently have $2250 in-hand (not including additional money pledged). Sponsorships include: o $1,000 (1 sponsor at Gold level - $1000) o $1,000 (2 sponsors at Silver level - $500) o $750 (3 sponsors at Bronze level - $250) o Other potential sponsors include Kohls, a strong possibility at the Silver level, and Porsche, who sponsored at the Platinum level of 2K last year. BB&T was also suggested as a possible sponsor to follow up with.
o
Sean will write a segment for The Buzz acknowledging our sponsors and encouraging parents to support their businesses. If participation equals last year’s 200, we can project 3K from runner registration fees and an estimated profit of 6K from the event. CYO will utilize a portion of the profit to purchase new uniforms. Donations include 250 Chik-Fil-A sandwiches, pizza from Vocelli and ice cream curtesy of the Knights of Columbus. Flight and Noodles & Co will not be participating this year. T-shirts will be purchased soon and will only be available through May 25th to ensure we do not overstock. Medals (for winners of each age group) will also be purchases shortly. A Sign Up Genius sign up will be created for the event. Sean will contact Theresa Ryan to inquire about the youth group as a possible source of volunteers. Vann will look for last year’s banners so they can be re-used for this year’s 5K.
