WEEK 4 * SEPTEMBER 8, 11 & 13
COACH’S COMMENTS “We are excited to play at home and see how the team responds after the last week of training. This three-game stretch will be a test of our character, competitiveness and focus.” -- Head Coach Lindsay Basalyga. MAKING HISTORY *BG women’s soccer had a record-setting crowd of 803 at the season opener against Chicago State. *The win Aug. 21 was the team’s first victory in a season opener since 2004. *BGSU opened the season 2-0-0 for the first time since 2000. *It is the first time in school history the Falcons have shut out its first two opponents. *Through two home games, the Falcons recorded seven goals, which is already more than the five goals the team scored at home a year ago. *The team’s 2-2-0 start this season hasn’t been done since 2009. *BG has recorded 10 plus shots in all four games this season. *For the first time since 2013, the Falcons have netted a goal in four straight contests. LAST TIME OUT: DETROIT RECAP Despite an early first-half goal (4th minute) by Mikaela Couch, the Falcons fell to Detroit 3-1 last Wednesday at Titan Field. The Titans then went on to score three unanswered goals to take the win. Lauren Cadel finished with two saves and moved to 2-2 on the season. CAREER HIGHS FOR COUCH Mikaela Couch has scored a goal in three of BG’s four contests , which were her first three in a Falcon uniform. Clocking 228 minutes of play in 2015, she has recorded a team-high six points this season, which is a career high for the sophomore forward. HUBERT’S RETURN Redshirt freshman Erica Hubert is seeing action for the first time in her BGSU career due to an injury suffered last season. Through four games, she has five points. Hubert scored her first career goal Aug. 21 in the season opener against Chicago State, also recording her first career assist in the 4-0 victory. On Aug. 23 against IPFW, the Ontario native capitalized on her shot from the top of the box to score her second goal of the season. For her performance in the team’s opening two matches, she received her first ever MAC Player of the Week award.
CAREER LEADER - LAUREN CADEL Redshirt-junior Lauren Cadel is already BGSU’s career leader in games with double digit saves with only two full seasons on the pitch for the Falcons. With her six total games with 10 or more saves last year in 2014, Cadel sits atop of the career record books with 12 career games with double digit saves. She also registered six games with double digit saves in her first year between the pipes for BGSU in 2013. FALCONS ALL-TIME VERSUS THE 2015 FOES BGSU enters the 2015 season having played all but one of its opponents prior to this year. The Falcons are 90-124-28 all-time versus their 19 regular season foes in 2015, including having posted double digit wins over Buffalo and Kent State, as well as wins over Akron, Kent State, Ohio and Chicago State in 2014. PICKED FIFTH IN THE EAST IN THE 2015 MAC PRESEASON POLL The Bowling Green State University Falcons were picked to finish fifth in the East Division by the MAC Coaches. The Buffalo Bulls are the favorite to win the East Division regular season title, while the Ball State Cardinals and Western Michigan Broncos are the tied favorite to win the West Division. In the East Division following Buffalo, Miami is predicted to finish second with Kent

FOCUS ON THE FALCONS Bowling Green and third-year head coach Lindsay Basalyga return 10 starters and a total of 16 letterwinners from last year’s team and added a redshirt-freshman and 10 new Falcons in the 2015 recruiting class. Despite the loss of only four letterwinners from a year ago, BGSU is still stacked with youth as 19 members of the 27 players on the 2015 roster are either sophomores or freshmen. However, of the Falcons’ 15 total goals last season, 13 of those scores were recorded by a total of eight returners on the roster this season. BGSU also returns starting goalkeeper Lauren Cadel, who led the MAC and was third among all NCAA Division I goalkeepers with a BGSU singleseason record 146 saves in 2014.

THE RETURNING CORE The Falcons have a strong core of returners for the 2015 season, as Coach Basalyga’s squad returns 10 starters and 16 total letterwinners. A total of 13 of the 16 returners logged over 500 minutes on the field for the Falcons in 2014, while eight of the returners accounted for a total of 14 goals last year. BGSU returns its leading goalkeeper in Lauren Cadel (146 saves), its leading goal scorer in Skylar Fleak (5 goals) and its assists leader in Leah Runkle (4 assists), while 10 other returners all played in at least 16 matches for the Falcons last season. YEAR THREE OF THE PROCESS This season will be the third year under head coach Lindsay Basalyga who took over the Falcons program in January 2013. With the task of rebuilding the program which had won a total of only 16 matches in the four years prior to Basalyga’s hiring, the Falcons have showed continued improvement towards the process of rebuilding the program over the last two seasons. BGSU has improved its when total over the last two years under Basalyga’s leadership and have made huge strides in restoring the program back to when the Falcons made the MAC Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament on a consistent basis. ON THE AIR WAVES AT BGRSO AND WWW.FALCONRADIO.ORG The Bowling Green Radio Sports Organization (BGRSO) will be broadcasting a total six home women’s soccer contests in 2015. You can tune in to the live calls by going online to www. falconradio.org on your computer, iPad or any other electronic device. ON TAP FOR THE FALCONS Following the home contest with Findlay, Bowling Green faces Eastern Illinois and Valparaiso this Friday and Sunday on the road. The Falcons then return to Cochrane Stadium for five home games beginning Sept. 17 with Bulter.
