WEEKLY SPELLINGS/WORD FAMILIES

Autumn 1 Week 7 Objective – Review of most commonly misspelt words in independent writing. Dear Parents/Carers –The following words are the most commonly misspelt words in their independent writing each week.

The children will complete an activity every week where they will complete sentences with missing words. The sentences will incorporate the words below. The score will be recorded in the Home School diary every Friday. The real success will be when your child starts to transfer these words, correctly spelt in their everyday writing, not just when completing a weekly challenge. Spelling Focus: Review of commonly misspelt words in independent writing. Task: Can you spell these words independently? Choose four of the words and write a sentence for each one. Don’t forget the sentence punctuation.

Have a go at writing the words independently on this side of the sheet. Don’t just copy the word! Maybe you could use the LOOK, SAY, COVER, WRITE, CHECK method.

LOOK –

Look closely at the word. How many letters? Can you see any patterns? Can you see any smaller words in the word (e.g each is in teacher) SAY Say the word aloud. What sounds can you hear? Talk to someone about what you can see and hear. COVER – Now cover up the word. WRITE – Have a go at writing it, without looking at it! CHECK – Check if you got it right. If not, where did you go wrong? Now have another go at writing and checking the word.
