Kickboxing We would like to say a big thank you to Pete at British Combat Academy for introducing kickboxing. The children learnt how to do a roundhouse kick, blocking techniques, as well as warming up correctly before exercising. The children really enjoyed the challenges he set.
Welcome for Father Christopher On Wednesday 24th May at 9.30am, we will be having an assembly for Father Christopher. Everyone is welcome to join us and refreshments will be served from 9.00am in Church. Holiday Club We will be running a holiday club for the first 3 weeks of the summer holidays, Monday 24th July – Friday 11th August. Bookings can be sent to
[email protected]. Health Week Despite the weather we have still managed to have a fantastic week! Children have enjoyed various activities such as kickboxing, gymnastics, Coxley woods visits, cooking, Ceilidh dancing and much more! Reception and Nursery children enjoyed a visit to the park. The children measured their heartbeat before the visit and during various activities at the park to compare the difference.
Cooking Healthy eating is an important part of health week. Each class has had the opportunity to make a healthy dish. Class 1S made a cheesy pasta dish as well as trying new flavours with fruit juice cocktails.
Other classes have made a quinoa salad which proved very popular.
They then enjoyed a class Wake Up Shake Up session back at school.
Year 6 children made fruit kebabs for the whole school to enjoy at break time as part of Freya’s idea during a JLT meeting.
Coxley Woods Despite the extremely wet weather, Class 2F had a ball, paddling in the stream and getting very muddy! Some children even chose to slide down the steep hills which was so much fun. It's a good job mud is good for the skin!
Healthy App Mr McHale has led sessions with the children which on ipads which involved creating their very own healthy app. Eleanor said ‘I loved creating my own fruit and designing my own background.’
They loved splashing in the river, getting wet, and a brave few even laid down - getting absolutely drenched. Class 3’s highlight of the week was Coxley woods, where the children also sketched, experimented with photography using iPads, played games and built dens.
Gymnastics and Dance We have had various coaches in school this week to teach the children different forms of dance. Reception, Nursery and Year 1 children enjoyed learning a dance routine and taking part in gymnastics.
Sports Days Due to weather conditions and the field being unsuitable, we had to cancel our sports days this week. These will now take place on: Nursery: Monday 22nd May 11.00am Reception/Year 1: Wednesday 14th June 2.00pm Year 2-Year 6: Thursday 15th June 1.30pm
The whole school also tried Ceilidh dancing (a traditional Scottish dance) with Mrs Partington. Year 3, 4 and 5 also enjoyed a taster of cheerleading followed by a sports quiz.
Class 3 Kwik Cricket Tournament The children worked hard to stop the opposing shots from going out of the boundary – we had some fantastic coaches! Skill was shown in their batting skills, gaining more and more runs. Great teamwork and support was shown by all the children that took park. Well done! Water Safety Children in Year 2-6 took part in water safety sessions to explore how to stay safe near water. Children looked at different places to swim and what to wear, effects of cold water and water safety signs and what they mean. Some of the children then designed their own safety poster.
First Aid The British Red Cross taught our Year 6 children some of the basics of first aid this week. Gabriella said ‘We learned some interesting tips for when people need help, whilst having fun at the same time.’
