WELCOME TO AWANA Our local Awana Club is part of Awana International, which has been in existence for 66 years. Awana is represented in 110 countries. The 2016-17 season marks our 40th year with the Awana program serving the San Lorenzo Valley area. Our goal is to reach boys and girls with the gospel – the good news – of Jesus Christ and to train them to serve Him. This is done through the memorization of passages from the Bible. Children also learn sportsmanship through games, good citizenship through activities, and leadership as they continue through the years. Each week clubbers will participate in an opening ceremony, games, handbook time and group lesson time. Awana Club is divided into smaller clubs by age: Cubbies: 3—5 years old (must be 3 by 9/1/16) Director: Carolyn Stallings Sparks: K—2nd graders Director: Kathy Newman Games Director: Andy Williams Truth & Training (T&T): 3rd—6th graders Director: Brenda Tanner Games Director: Andy Williams C-Track: 7th—12th graders Director: Harvey Newman Students participating in C-Track may also serve as student leaders in Cubbies, Sparks or Games as needed. CLUB SCHEDULE 6:05 Check-in begins 6:20 Opening Ceremony 8:00 Club ends It is important for the clubbers to be checked in by 6:20 and to be picked up promptly at the end of the evening. Be extremely careful in the parking lot by following the natural flow of traffic and watching for children. Do not encourage your child to run from the building to your car. For everyone's safety, please park and come into the church to pick them up. REGISTRATION FEE A fee of $50 is due upon registration, for each child participating in the program. Please make checks payable to Felton Bible Church noting your child’s name & Awana on the memo line. These fees assist in purchasing materials and awards used during the club year. AWANA CAFÉ Each week clubbers and their families have the option of having dinner at the Awana Café between 5:30 – 6:15. The meals are “kid friendly” and affordable. All profits go to support our Awana Camp Scholarship Fund. There is no adult supervision at this time so we ask that you stay with your child until you sign them in for the evening. HANDBOOKS & UNIFORMS After completing the free entrance booklet, clubbers are eligible to start working in their club’s handbook to earn awards and to wear their club’s uniform. As in Scouting or sports teams, the Awana uniform is an important part of being a member of the club. In fact, it’s central. Awards and achievements are displayed on the uniform.

CHURCH/SUNDAY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE As part of the Awana program, attendance at church or Sunday school is encouraged and rewarded. Please request the necessary form from your child’s leader. Church/Sunday school attendance can be at the church of your choice. If you don’t have a church home, we invite your entire family to join us here at Felton Bible Church. Our Sunday morning Worship Service is from 9:30—10:45. Followed by Sunday school from 11:00—12 Noon. There is a fellowship time between the Worship service and Sunday school. A NOTE TO PARENTS We feel honored that you would entrust your child into our care. We take this as a very serious responsibility. Our Awana staff has been trained and screened for your child’s spiritual growth and physical safety. You are invited to drop in and observe our program at any time. You are encouraged to discuss any concerns, in confidence, with our club directors or myself. You can help us help your child by making us aware of any special needs or problems your child may be dealing with at any given time during the year. If your child has a learning disability, please let us know so we can make special arrangements regarding memorizing verses. Each week please help your child to learn at least one section. In order to complete the handbook by the end of the year they need to pass 2—3 sections per week. Handbook pace plan schedules are available from our leaders to assist you and your child in staying on track. Children are expected to be able to pass a section word perfect with no more than two helps. We realize this is a high standard. However, we have found that children will rise to this standard. As your child passes sections and receives awards your praise will be the icing on the cake. Take time after each Awana meeting to praise your child for their achievements. Thank you again for allowing us the honor of working with your children. Harvey Newman, Awana Commander
