WELCOME TO GOLDEN KEY! Meet Our Officers: Kristen MacBride is the President of the UMaine Chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society. She graduated in May with a degree in Mathematics and minors in Business, Dance, and Education. She is now a firstyear student in the MBA program here at the University of Maine. She is currently taking classes in ballet, tap, jazz, and modern at Laurieís School of Dance. Brianna Snedeker is a Sophomore undergraduate student, with a major in Nursing, and a minor in Psychology. Along with Golden Key, she also participates in Orono Student Nurse's Association, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Sigma Pi and is the Vice President of her Complex Leadership Council on campus. Her passion in life is to help others and to make a difference in people's lives. She plans to someday become a Nurse Practioner. Jordan Servetas is the Vice-President of the UMaine Chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society. She is in her final year of undergraduate study at the University of Maine, finishing up a degree in biology with a pre-medical concentration. She is also a member of the Honors College and is working on writing an Honors Thesis which she will be defending in the spring. In her final semester, Jordan plans on enrolling in an EMT certification course in hopes of getting her feet wet in the field of emergency medicine immediately after graduating in 2015. Outside of school, Jordan works part-time waiting tables at Governor's Restaurant, volunteers occasionally with the Bangor Humane Society, and enjoys spending time with her family nearby.

Emily Walton is the Webmaster for the UMaine chapter of Golden Key (GK). She has been involved in GK since 2011, when she was a sophomore in college. Emily graduated from UMaine in May of 2014 with a Bachelo’s degree in Civil Engineering; she is now a graduate student at UMaine studying to get a Masters in Civil Engineering. There are five sub-disciplines to Civil Engineering and Emily is most interested in Structural Engineering. Her Masters thesis involves the design of a structural member and she is excited to gain a lot of experience from this. As for the limited time she has outside of her studies, Emily really just enjoys being involved in community service and visiting with family and friends. Kathy Hill is currently a junior in the BUS program with minors in English, Business Management, and Psychology. She is the proud mom of a 2012 UMaine graduate, Kaylee, and two wonderful Pomeranians, Dempsey & Boone. She was born and raised in Maine, and has lived all but two of her years in this state (the other two years she lived in Guam with her wonderful husband, Wade.) She is very honored to be a member of Golden Key International Honour Society. One of the reasons she thinks our chapter of Golden Key is great is that we are very focused on finding ways to make our community a better place for all. Robin Delcourt serves the University of Maine as the Special Assistant to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. She was a 1997 student inductee to Golden Key. Robin has worked in higher education since 1998 and holds a Master of Science degree in Adult Education with concentrations in Counseling and in Student Affairs in Higher Education. This is her first year as a Co-Advisor.

Victoria Pendleton is the Newsletter Editor for the UMaine Chapter of Golden Key. She is currently a junior undergraduate student and a recent member of Golden Key, having joined this year. She is majoring in Pre-Veterinary Studies with an Equine Studies minor. She plans to one day be a mixed Veterinarian with a focus on equines and enjoys reading, writing, and drawing.

SPARK a Change

Classic Cookie Fundraiser

This year Golden Key International Honour Society is placing focus on Serving, Preparing, and Readying Kids (SPARK). The mission of SPARK a Change is to impact and improve the lives of at-risk youth (ages 0-17) through literacy, education and real-world preparedness. By 2017, Golden Key aims to raise $40,000, dedicate 400,000 hours of service and impact 400,000 lives in local communities & around the world. Thus far, we have hosted a school supplies drive to benefit Milford Elementary School, and we have created and donated coloring books the campus day care center. Throughout this semester we plan to mentor local children, host a Dr. Seuss Day for elementary aged children, host an event at Milford Elementary School.

Golden Key has several academic, leadership, and service activities planned for the year. We will be hosting SPARK and Change events, participating in Relay for Life, working with the local Humane Society, hosting professional development and leadership event events, and attending regional and international conferences to learn new ideas for helping the community. To kick-off our fundraising for the events mentioned above we held a Classic Cookie Fundraiser. Classic Cookie was kind enough to aid us in our fundraising by giving us $7 of each item sold.

Cards to Soldiers On November 24th, Golden Key wrote holiday cards to soldiers overseas to show our appreciation for their bravery and sacrifice. We invited members of the University of Maine campus to join us and write a letter to a soldier. The soldiers we sent these letters to were on their first deployment.

Governor’s Restaurant Fundraiser On December 3rd, Golden Key held a fundraiser at Governor’s Restaurant in Orono. We collected donations and sold raffle tickets to collect money for our chapter in order to fund our various projects.
