Welcome to Petaluma United Soccer The Petaluma United Soccer Club oversees all levels of competitive soccer for Petaluma Youth Soccer league (PYSL). Our mission is to provide a competitive, high-quality soccer program to committed youth players by creating a consistent, safe and positive environment that will provide them with opportunities to attain their highest possible levels of soccer skills and self-confidence, while building a love and respect for the game. We support these objectives through excellent coaching, training, and competition in games at the highest age-appropriate level, increasing the tactical element of team play and using soccer to promote self-confidence, good sportsmanship and social responsibility. Our club’s success shall be measured by how well we abide by these principles and achieve our objectives. Competitive soccer is structured into Premier, Gold, Silver and Bronze division levels, and is designed for the highly motivated and committed players, as well as players involved in other sports. It also helps improve players trying to reach the higher divisions and it allows multi-sport athletes to participate at a high level appropriate for their skills and commitment to soccer. Program Highlights: • Quality soccer experience for all levels • Professional coach and/or trainer • Programs developed to enhance skills at all levels • Training season long enough for serious skill development and conducive for multiple sports athletes proportionate to the division level • Travel opportunities proportionate to the division level • Opportunity to experience tournament play and college showcases (higher division levels) Teams: Teams are formed for the U09 - U19 age groups. Players must try out for a position on a team, and selections are based on skill. Tryouts are typically in February (U9-U14) and March (U15-U19). Training: Practices begin between March and May for U9-U14 based on level, and May for U15-U19. They are held two or three times a week based on level. Teams have a professional coach, and in a few cases, younger developmental teams have a professional trainer to supplement our qualified parent coaches. Our Director of Coaching oversees all the coaches to ensure teams are getting the proper training. Tournaments: Teams participate in tournament play beginning in the summer. The Petaluma United tournament is usually held in June. Teams typically attend 2-3 tournaments in the summer and 2-3 in the fall. The final weekends of the fall months are reserved for tournament play and some tournaments may require overnight stay. League: U9-U14 teams play in League games from September to November. U15-U19 teams (off September October for High School sports) play in Winter League from January to March. There are usually two games per weekend, one each on Saturday and Sunday. Teams usually play up to six home and six away games. Travel distance is usually from Mill Valley to Windsor, but could require travel as far as Humboldt depending on division and league. Some teams also play Spring League. Post Season: Most teams participate in post-season tournaments, e.g. Association Cup, Presidents Cup, and State Cup. Parent participation: To help cover costs, many teams participate in fundraising, e.g. Human Race; obtaining league- approved business sponsors to print on the players’ training shirts; other promotions, etc. Parents are also required to participate in one of several team positions needed to run the teams, e.g. team manager, treasurer, United rep, uniform rep, fundraising, tournament rep, fields rep, travel coordinator, etc. www.petalumaunited.org www.facebook.com/PetalumaUnitedSoccer
