West Lake STEM is a 7th and 8th grade middle school in West Valley City that is devoted to the processes of the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields as the platform for instruction in the Utah Core Standards. A STEM teacher will have to chance to facilitate group projects and simulations in problembased learning experiences and help students learn to think critically and solve complex problems.
Improving academic mastery in science, technology, engineering, and math will be a key factor in ensuring the stability of economic growth and job creation in the country. STEM teachers prepare students with the knowledge and skills that are necessary to take up occupations that are becoming increasingly difficult to fill. With the demand for STEM workers expected to rise in the coming decades, students need project-based and experiential learning in preparation for the workplace.

Additional pay opportunities for a Title 1 school with SIG grant incentives:
• $1000 Title I bonus
• $2000 SIG bonus for school improvement goals
• $5000 bonus for teachers with a 70% MGP
• $1000+ in extra pay for home visits
• $8000 for after-school program hours
Enhanced facilities and furnishings conducive to a STEM approach, including a state-of-the-art collaboration hub.
5-period schedule that keeps total student load to half the size and allows for better student/teacher relationships.
