Whale Watching - Hermanus Tour Description: Hermanus is regarded as the whale watching capital of South Africa and there are few better ways to see these gentle giants in their natural environment than on a boat based whale watching tour. These tours are operated from the New Harbour in Hermanus and departs 3 times daily depending on the time of year and weather and sea conditions. The permit issued to the operators entitles them to approach the whales up to 50 meters and then stop, allowing the whales to decide wether to approach the boat or not. Being curious they normally approach the boat and enjoy a quick peekat their visitors. This is an experience to be treasured. Itinerary: The boat departs from the New Harbour in Hermanus and either crosses the Bay towards Gansbaai or hugs the coastline towards Hawston. A qualified whale specialist guide is on board to rrelate interesting facts and answer any questions en route. One usually encounters seals, marine birds and southern right whales. Bryde’s whales, dolphins and humpback whales are also seen at certain times of year. Price: R700 per adult, under 14 years old @ R300 per person and under 5 years old go free.
