Where are they now? We are delighted to announce that Brian Clarke and Don Hirst have been appointed Life Members of the club. To our knowledge they are the only remaining former players who played on the Common before we moved to the Anglo American Playing Fields in 1954. They join Michael Barton, Lawrence Gooderham, Michael Price, Jamie Sparrow, Michael Sparrow and Ryan Sparrow - all former players.

Sunday Mornings Sunday morning coaching enters its fourteenth consecutive season and our coaches felt it was time to take a fresh look at our provision in keeping with the way we have reviewed our junior training in the winter. We have deployed our own coaches to lead each age group from u4-7 through to u10 with some new young coaches becoming qualified in the winter. We will also have a lead coach overseeing the whole programme and supporting individual age groups. Youngsters will be issued with a distinctive purple tee shirt thanks to the generosity of Help My Cricket and Daniela Karsten Homeopathy. We have also held the subscription for the 12 week programme at £45 since there are no hard ball or ground preparation costs. (11-16 year olds £60). We have worked closely with Essex to review junior competitions and you will see more emphasis on festivals. We have also been visiting primary schools. It all leaps into action on Sunday 29 April—see you there!
Overseas players The legislation around overseas players continues to become more restrictive and we have worked hard to keep up with the changing guidelines. ‘Managed Migration’ is the umbrella term for the way in which cricket is now caught up in the national debate about immigration. We will continue to recruit young overseas players who come in on Youth Mobility Visas and we now hold a Sponsors Licence to enable us to bring over players on a Tier 5 Visa. THE DEXTER
Big Bash With the emphasis on playing the game we redesigned our winter programme as an indoor league with some technical sessions. It was great!
Ladies After a great season last year, the Ladies have moved up in to Division 1. They will be sponsored by Help My Cricket which involves coaching and a set of team club shirts. The squad is coached on a Thursday evening at 1900h. New members welcome.
Sponsors Pelly’s Solicitors, Rajapack, LPA, KMD Wealth Management, Saffron Insurance, Cheffins, Hot Pink Web Design, Help My Cricket, Western Electric Contractors Ltd and HCL continue to support the club. West Essex The Club has worked very closely with Essex in recent months to review the operation of the District Board. David Barrs is a member of the county’s Youth Participation Group which is rolling out a new approach for all districts in Essex. This will place a much clearer focus on junior cricket and give Essex a central role in supporting clubs and districts. The West has gone through a difficult couple of years but can now look forward with some confidence. It will re-badge itself as a Regional Participation Group and the Club will be key players in this process.
