Who Are We?

Multidisciplinary team (20 members) consisting of Sepsis Lead Nurse, representatives from other Nursing teams, Emergency Department, all Medical Divisions, Microbiology, Pharmacy, Management, and admin staff

NICE Algorithm (adult version)

Meets bimonthly to discuss Trust-wide education and ongoing monthly sepsis audits

What Did We Do?

 

Within a short span of time developed and ratified sepsis pathways based on NICE algorithms (all age groups) These are being rolled out in the Emergency Department (then Trust-wide through HIS electronic records)

How Did We Do It?

Recognised that the NICE algorithms were too complex for the target audience. The letter size was too small for quick reference. Additionally it missed out the familiar management term ‘Sepsis Six’.

  

Simplified the algorithms to single sheet A4 user-friendly pathways, and retained ‘Sepsis Six’ with slight changes Conducted Trust-wide consultation process through multiple formal and informal meetings and emails An eLearning package in currently under development; ongoing education incorporates the new pathways Paediatric versions:
