WHAT IF Sin Complicates Things? Colossians 1:16-18 on pages 1182-1183 (in the Bible located in the seat back pocket)

Next Steps Daily ponder the following statements and journal your thoughts and convictions. All sins are attempts to fill voids. Because we cannot stand the God shaped hole inside of us, we try stuffing it full of all sorts of things, but only God may fill it. Where do you run to find comfort, relief and/or control? “You and I were made not only to believe in God in some general way, but to love Him supremely, center our lives on Him above anything else, and build our very identities on Him…anything other than that is sin.” Kierkegaard What holds “trump” in your life (success, approval, applause, attention, winning, etc.)? When we turn good things into ultimate things, we are addicted and enslaved to them. Sin is turning good things into ultimate things. What good thing tends to become ultimate in your life? Our need for worth is so powerful that whatever we base our identity and value on we essentially “deify.” We will look to it with all the passion and intensity of worship, devotion, even if we think of ourselves as highly irreligious. What would be the root supplier of your feelings of value? Only if God is our ultimate good and life center, will we find our heart drawn out, not only to people of all families, races, and classes, but to the whole world in general. Who needs prayer and encouragement in your circle of relationships? This week, start your day out reading the following verses and asking God to help you center your thoughts, desires, actions, decisions, etc., all on Him. Pray that you will filter your moment by moment decisions by honoring God in all things. Colossians 1:16-18 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
