What is an Early Start Rating? 

Early Start Ratings are shown in one-half point (.5) increments and are published in July for the sole purpose of establishing a rating for those players who plan to play in the 2016 USTA Early Start leagues.

This Early Start Rating is based on the most current dynamic rating at the time of publication (this year = July 20). o Dynamic ratings are expressed to one-hundredth of a point and are not public knowledge o They are calculated regularly and based on the average of the current match plus the previous three dynamic ratings o Dynamic ratings are only generated daily in certain Adult Divisions only (Adult 18, 40, and 55)

This rating ONLY applies to those individuals who are playing in a 2016 Early Start League, beginning in the Fall of 2015.

Early Start Ratings are NOT your final rating for the year. o Year End Ratings will be published for all players in late November or early December, 2015 o Year-End Ratings are based on a combination of a player’s cumulative dynamic rating during the season and a comparison to an appropriate benchmark player o 2015 Year End Ratings will be used for all other 2016 USTA Leagues (where matches are played in the 2016 calendar year)

If your 2015 Year End Rating is higher than your 2016 Early Start Rating, you can still play with your Early Start Rating on your Early Start League team UNLESS… o Your 2015 Year End Rating reached the clearly above level mark. If it did, you must adjust to your new NTRP level on your Early Start team. Prior team matches played are valid. o You will receive a letter from the USTA PNW in December if you fit under this category (see National Regulation 2.05B(3)b for more information)

If your 2015 Year End Rating is lower than your 2016 Early Start Rating, you can request a rating adjustment on your Early Start League team roster to the new 2015 Year-End Rating by emailing [email protected].
