What is Christian Spiritual Formation?
What is Christian Spiritual Formation? Answering that question requires more than this piece of paper. Quoting from Soul Feast, by Marjorie Thompson, Spiritual formation begins with God stirring within us an “awareness of a hunger for greater depth and vitality in our faith life. We know there is more to a life indwelt by the divine Spirit than what we have experienced, but we are not sure how to gain access to this deeper dimension of life.”
Think of this as continually getting closer to God. The purpose of the Desert Southwest Conference Spiritual Formation Team is to provide opportunities and resources for Spiritual Formation in each individual in each local church. Below is a brief list to initiate, or continue your formation in the Spirit of God:
Begin EVERY church Ministry Team, or Committee Meeting with a formative question like, “What was my moment closest to Christ this past week?” Attend the Academy for Spiritual Formation.
Attend the Walk to Emmaus.
Offer classes about prayer to people of ALL ages.
Intentionally set aside daily personal devotional time; and journal, draw, or paint God’s response to you.
Join a small group of spiritual friends who meet regularly for the sole purpose of sharing your faith journey.
Seek out a Spiritual Director to discuss your spiritual journey (http://fumsdrl.org/)
Annual Conference 2014 Seek solace in the Chapel in CIRA A: The Chapel will be open daily 7:00 a.m.8:00 p.m. Thursday – Saturday, and 7:00 a.m. – NOON on Sunday. This space is for individuals and small groups to gather, pray, rest, reflect, and listen to God. Morning Watch in Chapel in CIRA A: Join us for Spirit-centered prayer each morning for 7:00 - 7:30 a.m. Thursday - Sunday.
