What is Science? Finding a definition for science is not always easy because it can mean different things to different people. Science from my standpoint can be viewed as all the living things around us or, it can be the way human beings survived. It is often the process of obtaining information and using that information to study the natural environment and human conduct. The plants, animals, and even the air we breathe are considered science. Science also means the knowledge and skills that we as human beings have acquired in order live and enjoy the good things in life. Ultimately, science can be defined as the relationship between theory and evidence. Theories are the explanation of things example, the theory of gravity, why things fall down? Gravity is the explanation of why things fall to the ground. It also has to do with observation of how we see things.
What is Psychology? Psychology on the other hand is defined as “the scientific study of human and animal behavior with the object of understanding why living beings behave as they do” (Castro, H. (n.d.). Definition of psychology. The Science of Mind. Retrieved November 4, 2011, from http://www.mindfocus.net/nc00100.html). Psychology tends to focus more of the way our minds work. It has to do with the way we think and do things. It can be broken down into mental and conscious states. The psychology in which most, if not all, of us were nurtured is the psychology that defines itself as the description and explanation of mental states or states of consciousness (Bode, B. H. (1922). What is Psychology? Psychological Review, 29(4), 250-258). However, Psychology is also considered a science. It is the difference between the methodology and the

content. It’s the explanation of theory and how to construct the empirical evidence to support that theory. Psychology can also be seen as both a practice and a science.
Branches of Psychology However, they are different types of psychology that defines human behavior. The few types of psychology that will give us a better understanding of why psychology is a science are cognitive, biological and clinical psychology. Cognitive psychology describes how we learn, remember and solve problems in our everyday life. Biological psychology gives us the relationship between the physical systems of our body and how it influences our thought and behavior. Clinical psychology is, “a psychologist may be considered clinical when he is able to take a responsible and unemotional stand on the all-important question of therapy” (Harrower, M . R. (1948). The evolution of a clinical psychologist. 2(1), 23-27). These types of psychology do not have to do with the physical aspect of human body alone but also our minds. In which, this can help us solve some of our daily health, emotional and physical problems.
Psychology vs. Other Sciences Psychology differs from other branches of science because it does not only take into account the explanation the technical nature of science, but also how it is applies to a realistic setting and how it influences others. For example, neuroscience is the study of how the human brains and nervous system works. These results can have the outcomes as a cognitive psychologist because in real terms it has the same meaning but what differentiates them is how they applied the information that they collected. A psychologist might examine human, animal experiences and behavior, mostly in biopsychology; they focus on a great deal of humans’ animalistic nature particularly in terms of the evolutionary predispositions, mate selection, selflessness and other similar behaviors. They would examine the qualities of humans that are
inherited, the effects of the brain and nervous system on behavior, the effects of behavior on the various regions of the brain, etc. (Wimalachandra, N. (n.d.) Psychology , the scientific study of behavior and the mind. Google. Retrieved November 4 2011, from http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/ search?q=cache:ABu560W2e1QJ:www.nishanw.org/Psychology%2520II.doc+nishan+wimalachandra+c oncepts+of+psychology&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us). In relation to other methods, such as the
theological approach, psychology uses reasoning and evidence to explain a person’s or animal’s behavior whereas, a theological approach one may say that human behavior is caused by methodologies.
The Greek Gods and Philosophers The Gaia Theory is the planet Earth. It is used to even things out. This theory shows the difference between the spiritual and the beliefs sides. It has to do with the conception of M other Earth. How living and non-living things came to be on Earth. For example, all religions have their own beliefs of how the earth, sun, moon and the stars came about. In that, what are the things that make up the universe? Some may belief that there is a God; he is the creator of the universe while others may think that earth was just here all the time. The universe is made up of both divine and physical things. Thales a famous philosopher came up with the notion that, “All things are water and all things have souls.” He is saying that all complex things can be reduce to the simplest forms. No matter how difficult something may seem there is always an easier side to it. On the other hand, Heraclitus has his own theory of the universe. He says that, “A man cannot step into the same river twice and the path up and the path down is always the same path.” In the first one he is saying that there is only one image within oneself, takes for instance, your personal identity. You cannot be the same person twice either you chose to be a good person or a

bad person or you cannot be a one age twice. And, for the second one he is simply saying that what goes up must come down or as they say what goes around comes around. Putting these into one concept can help define our human life and the way we think. I think you took a very interesting approach! 24/25
