What is Your Treasure?

What is Your Treasure? We are blessed with many good things in life. We have amazing families, friends, homes, toys, and clothes. What are some things you are blessed with? What is the absolute, very most important thing you are blessed with? The most important gift we have is God. Have you ever had something special to you that you don’t have now? What happened to it? Every good gift is from God, but most gifts are not forever. Are you wearing the same clothes today you wore a year ago? No! Of course you are probably wearing different clothes, because you are taller than a year ago. What about adults? Do their clothes last forever? No, they don’t. Eventually they get holes and need to be thrown away, and God provides new ones. People don’t always live in the same homes or keep the same toys. We can even lose friends and family either because they move away, change jobs or schools, or sometimes they die. God has given us all these special gifts, because He wants us to have joy and be healthy. It is important to know blessings flow in and out of our lives. God always meets our needs, but we aren’t promised to always have the same things we had before. What if you choose one of these special things, and you decide it is the most important thing in the world to you? What if one day the thing you treasure is gone? How would you feel and how would you respond? Do you have anything that can never be taken away from you? Absolutely! You have God and your relationship with Him. Romans 8:38 tells us that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. It doesn’t matter what we experience in life. We will never be separated from God or His love. Are you always with the people you love? Do you ever feel lonely? During those times and all times, you have God with you. Have you ever lost something special to you like we talked about earlier? We will lose things in life, but we will never lose God. God wants us to enjoy all He’s blessed us with. He just wants us to hold all those gifts with open hands knowing we love and appreciate them while we have them, but we are not to make them our deepest treasure. What should be our deepest treasure? God and our relationship with Him should always be the most important thing to us. God wants to be our absolute treasure. He truly is, because He is life and love. He created us for a relationship with Him so without Him we can never be our best. He knows all things and will teach us everything we need to be blessed. Remember bad things will happen. We will lose things we value, and we will have pain. If God is always our treasure when these things happen we will always run to Him, and we won’t fall apart from other loss because those things are never as special as He is. Even when we lose things, we never lose what is most important. He needs to be most important! What is most important to you? Ask Jesus today to help you always make Him your treasure.
