What Students Need to Be Eligible for Intercollegiate Competition…  First-Time Freshman: Your eligibility or qualification status is determined solely by the NCAA Eligibility Center. They certify the academic and amateur credentials of all college-bound student-athletes who wish to complete in Division I or II. 1. All high school transcripts must be sent from the high school attended to the NCAA Eligibility Center. 2. 16 core courses (English, math, science, etc.) must be passed with at least a 2.00GPA. 3. Combined SAT score of 820 (critical reading and math only) or an ACT sum score of 68 (English, math, reading, and science). All test scores must be sent from the testing center site. The NCAA Eligibility Center testing code is “9999”. The NCAA Eligibility Center does NOT accept faxed or emailed transcripts/test scores. They also do not accept test scores that are printed on transcripts.

Note: Once a student enrolls, whatever test scores they have are the ones that must be sent. They cannot retake the test at a later date for a higher score and submit. The minimum required SAT (820) or ACT score (sum of 68) MUST be achieved before enrolling at Paine College.

 Transfer students:

1) Did you leave the last institution attended in good academic standing? (This is determined by the institution you are transferring from) 2) Did you pass at least 12 transferrable hours for every full-time semester/quarters attended? 3) Will your calculated transfer GPA be at least a 2.000? 4) If you are transferring in the spring, did you compete in the fall? 5) Did you attend at least two consecutive full-time semesters/quarters at the last institution? 6) Did you previously attend a 2-yr or 4-yr institution? How many? (Note: the more you transfer the less likely you will be eligible) 7) If you attended a 4-year has permission to contact been granted by your previous institution? 8) Did you sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI) at the previous institution? If so, did you fulfill the obligations of the NLI? 9) Were you a qualifier out of high school? If you attended any previous institution full-time, those full-time semesters count whether the classes transfer or not. If you attend classes at least one day as a full-time student you are considered to have attended full-time and are responsible for at least 12 transferable hours.

 Continuing Students: 1) Must pass at least 24 hours each full-time academic year in school with a 2.00GPA (minimum). (At least 18 of those 24 hours must be completed during the fall and spring semesters). 2) A maximum of six hours can be counted for summer courses. 3) Courses that Paine and the individual degree programs require a ‘C’ or better in for graduation, cannot be counted until that passing grade is received. 4) Beginning the 5th semester, you must declare a major. All courses taken at this point must also be a part of the declared major degree program. 1|Page

5) Repeated courses that a student has already received a ‘C’ or better in cannot be counted. 6) Students who need extra hours as students at Paine should not be encouraged to enroll part-time. Why? IF we count those hours for eligibility, then we will have to count the semester as a full-time semester even though they were part time. 7) If you desire to take summer courses at a different institution, you must receive approval from the Registrar’s office before you register. By not obtaining prior approval you run the risk of those courses not being accepted.

 Additional Tidbits  Any gambling will result in loss of eligibility.  Playing on an outside team while your team is in season will result in the loss of your eligibility.  The NCAA drug testing program is year round. They can test you within 24 hours of notification at any time. A missed test is the same as a positive test.  Athletic aid cannot pay for back bills. Athletic aid is only a one year contract and is not guaranteed year to year.  Proof of a physical that is required for full acceptance to Paine cannot be used for athletics.  Written proof of a sickle cell solubility test is required.  Division II students have a total of four seasons of eligibility and a maximum of 10 semesters to complete those four seasons. This list is NOT all-inclusive; obviously each student’s situation is different. As always you may use www.ncaa.org for additional information.
