Frontier Conference Adds Two Schools WHITEFISH, Mont. — Commissioner Kent Paulson announced recently that invitations have been extended to Dickinson State University of North Dakota and Southern Oregon University to join the Frontier Conference beginning in the 2012-2013 season. Dickinson State will join as a full member while Southern Oregon joins as an associate member in football. Officials from Dickinson and Southern Oregon, along with Menlo College of California and Jamestown College of North Dakota were in Billings, Mont. and made formal presentations to the Frontier Conference Council of Presidents. Menlo and Jamestown weren’t rejected, but at their own request, asked to be considered at a future time. “Another historic chapter of the Frontier Conference was written this week in Billings,” Paulson said. “The presidents have authorized me to expand the conference and this is just the first step. Several other schools have expressed interest in joining and that could happen prior to the 2012 season.” With the addition of the teams, the Frontier Conference has expanded for the first time since 2006 when Eastern Oregon University joined as an associate member in football. "This is very exciting news for EOU," Eastern Oregon University President Bob Davies said. "We welcome Southern Oregon University and Dickinson State University into the Frontier Conference. Both schools bring with them very well respected athletic and academic programs. We have a tremendous rivalry with SOU and this will add a great new dimension." Beginning in the 2012-2013 season, the Frontier Conference will have eight teams competing in football and nine teams competing in volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball. The growth will strengthen the conference in all Frontier Conference sports.
