IT’S EASY! Philosophy The overall philosophy for the Woodland Hills Wahoos is to promote swimming as a recreational activity and to foster both a competitive team spirit and individual improvement. Within this philosophy, we have two goals: 1. The goal for the dual meets should be INDIVIDUAL IMPROVEMENT. 2. The goal for Divisionals is a TEAM WIN. The season goal for each swimmer should be to get as many “Best Time” swims as possible. Swimmers are given ribbons each Monday after the meet for each “Best Time” swim. Each swimmer should attend at least 3 practices each week to be eligible to swim in that week's meet. Exceptions due to illness or other circumstances MUST be cleared with the head coach. Each swimmer MUST compete in at least 2 meets to attend the Divisional championship meet. Swimmers who have attended at least 3 of the five Dual meets and most practices will receive a trophy at the end of the season awards ceremony.
Eligibility Children ages* 4 through 18, from North and South Woodland Hills, Kings Forest, King’s Manor and other areas, eligible under NWAL rules, may apply to be on the Woodland Hills Swim Team. While mastery of specific swim strokes is not required at the time of application, all eligible children must be water safe (able to cross the pool without personal assistance) by the time Jump Start Camp ends. *Age is determined by the child’s age on May 31st of the current swim season. Age limitations are set per the By-Laws and exceptions cannot be made.

Health and Safety Safety and Health Guidelines There are several precautions that all parents and swimmers should take to ensure a safe and healthy swim season: 1. Always advise the coaches about any health problems. 2. Outer ear infections can commonly occur in swimmers if precautions are not taken. After
each swim session, eardrops such as "Auro dri" should be used. *** 1. Extended exposure to chlorine can sometimes cause problems. Goggles can be worn to prevent eye irritation. Swim coaches often recommend a drop of milk in each eye after swimming to counteract the chlorine.*** Swimmers should shower after swimming to remove chlorine from skin and hair; special shampoos are available. Also, to prolong the life of a swimsuit, it should be rinsed after each use. 4. Excellent sunscreens are available. If your child needs a sunscreen, buy the waterproof type and apply it at least 20 30 minutes before getting into the water.*** 5. All normal Pool Rules, such as "no running, no horseplay", etc. should be observed. *** As with any medication or remedy, consult your physician before use. Help Keep Our Pool Beautiful We are grateful to South Woodland Hills Community Association and the North Woodland Hills Community Association for the use of their pools for our practices and meets. It is our policy that we always leave the pool areas cleaner than we found it. Please pick up the trash in your area before you leave after practices and after meets. Please replace all chairs and lounges back to their original locations. Alcohol and Tobacco Policy There will be no alcohol at any swim function and no tobacco of any nature inside the pool area. Lost and Found Parents, please help your swimmers keep track of their personal belongings. Every year we donate bags and bags of games, clothing, towels, etc to Goodwill Industries. These items get left in the ready area after practices and/or meets and are never claimed. Please label your WAHOOS Core Info

Refunds Refunds are rare and are made on a case by case basis. Refunds will be handled only by the Swim Board President. No refunds will be made after . May 10, 2015 The Wahoos do not conduct tryouts. Anyone who wants to be on the team, meets safety guidelines, and residency requirements "makes" the team. However, there have been occasions when a very young swimmer is just not ready for swimming. If, in the coaches' opinion, a swimmer does not show reasonable progress (usually by Time Trials) and is a danger to himself or herself in the water, the parents may be asked to withdraw the child and wait until next year. In this case, a full refund will be offered.
