Who is Larry Hogan? Larry Hogan is not a career politician. He is a small businessman, a concerned citizen, and a lifelong Marylander who loves this state. Hogan is the Founder, President, and CEO of The Hogan Companies, a leader in economic development for over 25 years, who has been responsible for bringing hundreds of businesses and thousands of jobs to Maryland. He clearly understands how government policy can have an impact on business growth and job creation. Always a concerned citizen, Hogan also understands state government. He took a leave from his company to serve as a State Cabinet Secretary from 2003 to 2007. During this time, Hogan was involved in the appointment of people to all three branches of government and credited for making the Ehrlich-Steele administration the most bipartisan, most inclusive, most diverse administration in Maryland history. A lifelong Marylander who loves this state, Hogan could no longer sit on the sidelines and watch the failed policies of the current administration. In order to provide Marylanders with the opportunity to hold their elected officials accountable, Hogan founded Change Maryland, which has quickly grown into the largest non-partisan grassroots organization in the state. As chairman and founder, Larry Hogan has crisscrossed the state listening to the concerns of Marylanders from all walks of life. Larry and his wife, Yumi - an artist, teacher, and first-generation KoreanAmerican – reside in Edgewater, MD. They have three daughters and are active in many volunteer civic and charitable organizations.

TO: Interested parties FROM: Steve Crim, Campaign Manager RE: Hogan-Rutherford Fundraising & Grassroots Report Preliminary Fundraising Report: Our first campaign finance reporting period ended on April 8. Our preliminary estimate is that in the first 68 days of our campaign we raised more than $422,000 from more than 1,800 unique individual contributors. Our pace of fundraising accelerated over the final few weeks of the reporting period as our television and radio campaign enabled our message to reach more and more Marylanders eager for change. In just over two months, the Hogan campaign dwarfed the fundraising efforts of any of the Republican challengers for all of last year and nearly exceeded the total of all of their combined efforts for all of last year. Comparison to Democrat candidates in first 68 days of their campaigns: Hogan: $449,500 from 1,800 donors Brown: $440,403.45 from 944 donors Gansler: $306,345.20 from 555 donors Mizeur: $68,919.52 from 546 donors

Fundraising:  We’re outperforming the career politicians of both parties who have spent decades in office and have long-established finance machines. o We are on par with where Anthony Brown was at this stage of his campaign in terms of dollars but have nearly twice the number of donors; we are ahead of Doug Gansler, and way beyond all our Republican challengers combined. 

We have broad support from middle class voters - We are raising more money in smaller donations from more people than our competitors.

We attracted more donors than even Anthony Brown - the sitting Lt. Governor!

While we are excited by the huge number of small donations we continue to receive from a wide cross section of Maryland voters, we are humbled by the outpouring of support from average Marylanders who are attending our events, making calls, knocking on doors and engaging with us online. The momentum is clearly with Hogan-Rutherford. Momentum in the first two months of the campaign:  More than 10,000 more people have joined our effort. 

3,000 people have attended our recent events.

Our grassroots army has surged to over 85,000 Republicans, Democrats and independents who want to see real change in Maryland.

Our Facebook engagement is incredible - last week alone more than 379,000 interacted with our page. (Facebook.com/ChangeMaryland)

By comparison just over 12,000 people “like” Anthony Brown on Facebook despite his years in politics and high name ID. Our Atty. General has just 7,300 likes.

Our first TV and radio ads of the campaign are on the air and helping to drive turnout at our events, increasing fundraising and direct mail effectiveness and growing the number of volunteers.

We’ve dropped more than 200,000 pieces of mail.

Thanks to everyone who has supported our campaign, volunteered, donated, come out to an event, and liked, shared and commented on our social media pages - every time you do, you help to spread our message of fiscal responsibility and common sense. Together we are pulling back the curtain on politics as usual and shining light on the biggest challenges facing our state. Thank you for your continued support, and for helping us to Change Maryland.

Current Political Environment In just three short months, Larry Hogan has emerged as the frontrunner for the GOP nomination. Five recent polls show Hogan with a commanding lead and the uncommitted voter pool shrinking. Further, our campaign just released its first campaign report which showed us shattering our internal fundraising goals. With this robust fundraising, we have started our voter contact programs early and are now advertising statewide on TV and radio. As we continue to meet every single benchmark, our campaign remains focused on its top priorities - raising money, name ID, and creating contrast with the eventual Democratic nominee. By contrast, the number of uncommitted voters in the Democratic primary has grown to nearly 10% since September as Brown, Gansler and Mizeur battle it out for the nomination. The acerbic tone in this contest will continue to drive up the unfavorable ratings of the presumed frontrunner and further damage Brown’s reputation with swing voters – especially when the campaigns begin their negative voter contact programs.
