Who We Are What We Do When Do We Start Where To get Information

Burrell Buccaneer Gridiron Club Who We Are To state it simply, we are the support for the Burrell Football Program. That support comes in many ways, but our goal is to work with the head coach to make the program as strong as possible. We want our football program to be the best in the state. To accomplish that goal, we need a group of dedicated parents, and other supporters, to help us realize our mission. In the end, we want the kids who participate in the football program to graduate with great memories of their time as a Burrell Buc.

What We Do Our first goal is to raise the money needed to support the football program. However, we also work with the head coach to help organize events, provide authentic teamwear for the kids, and help with other needs the program has that are not covered by the school district. Here are some of the things we do each year: •

Provide pre-game meals on game day

Fund the annual scholarship(s)

Provide meals during the week of Heat Training

Provide fundraisers to help kids pay for camp

Provide an end-of-season Banquet, with gifts for the players and coaches

Manage the concession stand

Sell Burrell Team Apparel

When Do We Start We actually started back in January, getting the important pieces of the season in place. The biggest of those is the yearly budget. Now it’s time to get people on the various committees, to begin tackling the many jobs ahead. We have a list of the current committees, and what is required to be a part of them. This is a critical area. If all of our parents will volunteer some time, all of the work can be divided, and no one has to run themselves into the ground. Please consider where you can best help, and support the program. When you consider the effort given by the coaches and players, how can we do any less in our support of them?

Where To get Information Currently, our best method of communication is through email. Emails are sent with meeting dates/times as well as other important information. Please make sure that Traci Seibert ([email protected]) has your email address. We also have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Burrell-Gridiron-352359154865938/ , and our website is www.burrellfootball.com. Communication is hard work, and we will do our best to get information out in as many ways as possible. Communication also requires effort from both sides, so please do your best to check your email and follow our online options. Attending meetings is really the BEST way to stay up to date!

Burrell Buccaneer Gridiron Club When We Meet The Gridiron Club will begin meeting weekly in August, and will meet weekly throughout the season. Meeting nights are usually on Tuesday, but may be changed during the season. Email reminders for meetings are sent out in advance, and are also listed on the calendar, so please pay attention to your email to make sure you know when meetings are scheduled.

How Do I Join Up until this season, the cost to join was $10 per person, or $15 per couple. We just changed our bylaws so that anyone who has a child in the Burrell Football Program is automatically a member (two member limit). When meetings are well attended, we get more ideas, suggestions, and comments. We believe that only strengthens our Club, and in turn, the football program. Please make every effort to be at as many meetings as possible. We understand things come up, but if we want a good booster club, we need to be committed.

Do I have to Be on A Committee Yes – the success of our year will depend in large part upon the work of our committees. When people don’t participate, things either don’t get done, or they get done poorly. That leads to frustration and apathy, and the whole program suffers. As we said before, if we expect our kids to commit, we need to commit as well. Keep in mind being on a committee does not mean you need to lead it. However, our committee leaders need help, too! Many of our committees have a single job to do, and when it is finished, that job is done for the year. Working together makes life easier for us all!

What Else Do I need to Know All parents of players, whether Gridiron members or not, are required to meet their fundraising and volunteer obligations. Our fundraising is described in more detail on the pages that follow. We also ask each family to volunteer time in the concession stand on game nights. This is true for all officers and members. Once we know how many parents and players there are, we will figure out how many events need to be worked by each family. These events include concession stand, 50/50 and program sales. This year we plan to use an online service, that should make it easy for you to sign up for the events that best fit your schedule. This sign-up will be available beginning August 1st, and more information will be presented at the Gridiron meeting that evening. This will be done on a first come, first served basis, so you want to sign up early to make sure you can reserve the events that work for you.
