WHY ARE YOU HERE? PART 1 COLOSSIANS 1:28-29

The method proclaim, admonish and teach everyone with all wisdom 1. Proclaim

First things first He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me. Colossians 1:28-29

The goal “everyone fully mature in Christ” téleos = having reached its end

What is maturity in Christ? “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’… ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Mark 12:28-31

Whose job is it anyway? “He is the one we proclaim”

In your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. 1 Peter 3:15

2. Admonish (Warn, Encourage) You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. Hebrews 3:13

3. Teach Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:23-25 Then we will no longer be infants…Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. Ephesians 4:14-15

Every believer is a minister I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to instruct one another. Romans 15:14

Anointed! You have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. …As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit – just as it has taught you, remain in him. 1 John 2:20, 27 Ines Franklin • April 29, 2018 Listen: marinerschurch.org/ch-messages • Scripture from the NIV unless noted
