How long have you been on staff at Western Hills? (When were you hired?) I have been a member at WHCC in 1993 and have worked in the nursery since I began attending.
Why do you do what you do at Western Hills (why this job)? I serve in several ways at WHCC. My immediate mission is to help create a safe, nurturing nursery environment for children, allowing parents to come and worship God. I also teach middle school Sunday school and children’s church.
Where did you grow up / where have you lived? I grew up outside of Richmond, VA and went to college at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX. I moved to Lawton, OK in December of 1992 and have called WHCC home since moving here.
What are your significant relationships (spouse, children, roommates)? Shawn (spouse, married since June 1993) Children – Abby, Kaylee, & Matthew
What is your education background? I have a BA in Communication and BBA in Business from Abilene Christian University. I have a MA in Organizational Communication from ACU as well. My Ph.D. is in Business from Northcentral University.
What is your profession? I am an Assistant Professor at Cameron University; however, I am most proud of my role as mother to my children.
Do you have any pets? YES! A beagle named “Jack”, a cat named “Patches”, and a fish named “Gill” short for “Magilicutty.”
What are your interests / what do you do for fun? Other than driving my children “to and fro”, I like to read a book and drink coffee on my front porch, plant in my garden, and really any outside activity. I also have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
What are your favorite foods / places to eat? My favorite food is anything some else will make for me!!! Really, I love Mexican food – that is my favorite. But I also love a good burger.
Where do you like to visit / vacation? We usually make a trip home to Virginia every year. For me the “best” vacations are the ones where I “do” something with my family. I like taking my kids to swim at Virginia Beach, rafting in Colorado, and hiking in the Grand Canyon. The best memories are away from electronics, away from household chores, and center around conversations/activities spent with family and friends.
What is your favorite part of serving at Western Hills? Living so far away from my family, I like having a place where I feel at home. WHCC has given that to me and I want to give it back to others. Many of our families here are away from their families as well and families with small children need help occasionally. Serving in the nursery helps me connect with parents who may need help from time to time. It is a way of giving to others the same blessings that were given to me.
