Why Is Gautam Gambhir The Most Underrated Indian Cricketer? Sports Gautam Gambhir, born on October 14th, 1981, is a left-handed batsman who mainly serves as an opener for the Indian cricket team. He made his debut in the 1900-00 season for Delhi and in the year 2000, he was selected in the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore which is a premiere place to train young cricketers who have the capability to represent the Indian cricket team. He played a vital role in the 2007 T20 world cup triumph and 2011 cricket world cup, however, his career graph took a downfall after 2011. But the southpaw couldn't be written off so easily. Today he leads Delhi and is the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders. Gambhir was India's top runscorer in the ICC World Twenty20 with 227 runs. Only Mathew Hayden was the one to score more than him with 265.
