Wiffleball Home Run Derby 1. Participation: The Wiffleball Homerun Derby is a Co-Rec event/competition. Both male and female participation is strongly encouraged. 2. Equipment: The Intramural Department will supply wiffleball bats and wiffleballs for the event. All registered participants MUST use the equipment provided by the NYU Intramural Department. 3. Format: The home run derby will be a single-elimination, head-to-head, bracket style format in which the loser of each bracket is eliminated immediately. The hitter with the most homeruns in each contest will advance. In the event of a tie, there will be a 60 second running clock swing-off between the contestants. If there is still a tie, each hitter will alternate three swings until a winner is decided. 4. Designated Pitcher: Each batter may choose any pitcher to deliver their pitches for the contest. The pitcher will pitch from the designated pitcher’s area. A batter may not change pitchers after their selection has been made to the official. If a batter does not have a pitcher at the time of their at bat, an intramural official will serve as the default pitcher 5. Hitting: Each participant will have a running time of five minutes to hit as many home runs as possible. The clock will begin when the first pitch is thrown. The time will stop in the event of a “reload” of the wiffleballs for the pitcher. 6. Home Run: A home run will be declared when a participant hits a ball over the fence in fair territory or any other ground rules explained before the competition began. 7. Bonuses: Each home run is worth one point. Home runs hit to the opposing field for a hitter, as determined and discussed by the officials before the contest, are considered a bonus home run worth two points. 8. Obstacles: The ceiling, rafters and lights are in play and are to be considered as part of the derby and field. These obstacles can work for a participant or against a participant at any time. Batted balls may ricochet or bounce off these obstacles for home runs. Batted balls may also bounce off of these obstacles to eliminate potential home runs. 9. Disqualifications/Forfeits: Any participant can be eliminated from the competition at any time due to violations that include not being present at the time of their at bat, throwing of equipment (bats), unsportsmanlike conduct, violation of NYU Intramural policies and procedures, and the rules and regulations of the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center. ALL REFEREE DECISIONS ARE FINAL The NYU Intramural Department reserves the right to override any of these rules should the situation call for it.
