WiFi Talk and Text Retailer FAQs November 2016
WiFi Talk and Text Effective November 16, 2016, WiFi Talk and Text will allow Ultra and Univision Mobile Customers (with select Android devices) to make or receive calls and text messages through a WiFi network. While our carrier partner has invested billions of dollars into improving coverage, if Customers ever find themselves in an area with limited coverage – like in a basement, or in an older building made with materials that block out the signal – all they need to do is connect to a WiFi hotspot, and they'll be able to call or text using WiFi! (Please note that regular per-minute charges still apply for WiFi calls to a non-unlimited destination.) What is WiFi Talk and Text? WiFi Talk and Text gives Ultra and Univision Mobile Customers the ability to make or receive voice calls or texts over a WiFi connection if their cellular signal strength is weak or does not exist. WiFi Talk & Text leverages their local WiFi to connect to the carrier's network rather than connecting directly to the carrier's network. What are the advantages of enabling and using WiFi Talk and Text? As long as connected to a local WiFi network, Customers will be able to use their mobile device to make/receive voice calls and send/receive SMS messages, just as if it were a normal cellular call. This means that they can use their service even when the wireless signal is limited. Another advantage of having the WiFi feature active on the account is to eliminate International roaming charges if travelling internationally. If a Customer is roaming internationally with WiFi enabled they will not be charged for any inbound or outbound calls. The same is true for sending and receiving SMS messages. Note: Standard Terms and conditions, fair usage policy etc. do still apply to all WiFi calls, both Domestic and International. Regular per-minute charges still apply for WiFi calls to an International non-unlimited destination Are all Phones and SIM’s WiFi Talk and Text compatible? Two things are required for a Customer to be able to use Ultra and Univision Mobile WiFi Talk and Text: 1) An Android phone built for handling WiFi calls, and 2) a SIM card that's WiFi Talk and Text-capable. If a Customer's SIM card can't support WiFi, they will be informed when they attempt to register an e911 address. Note: If a Customer’s phone is compatible with WiFi Talk and Text but the SIM card is not, the Customer can contact Care to get a replacement. Care will check if the SIM is not compatible and that the Customer hasn’t received a replacement SIM before (Only one replacement SIM per Customer). The Customer will need to provide their physical address and correct Customer info, and can take up to 7 days to receive the replacement. If a Customer opts to request a replacement SIM through Care - to avoid service interruptions the customer should wait until the replacement SIM is received before performing a SIM Swap. Customers can also purchase a SIM at an approved Ultra Retailer. We’ve updated the SIM tool under Toolbox on UltraAgents.com so a Retailer can check if a SIM is compatible and explain the Customer options. What phones are WiFi Talk and Text compatible? A list of carrier-approved Android phones that are compatible with WiFi Talk and Text will be available here. Note: Other Android Devices MAY work
WiFi Talk and Text Retailer FAQs November 2016 What is an e911 address and why does my Customer need to supply this? In the United States, E911 (Enhanced 911) is support for wireless phone users who dial 911, the standard number for requesting help in an emergency. Since wireless users are often mobile, some sort of enhancement is needed to 911 service that allows the location of the user to be known to the call receiver. To activate WiFi Talk and Text, it is recommended your Customer provide the address for their primary use of WiFi. WiFi Talk and Text cannot be set up without providing an e911 address. See WiFi Talk and Text step-by-step guide on UltraAgents.com for details. Can a Customer make INTERNATIONAL calls using WiFi? Yes, they can! Please note that it will draw down their INTERNATIONAL calling balance the same way that it would if they were calling while connected to the cellular network when they are calling a destination that is not Unlimited in their current plan. If they do not have any INTERNATIONAL calling credit available, their wallet balance will be used to pay for the INTERNATIONAL calls. Can a Customer use WiFi Talk and Text while roaming internationally? Yes, a Customer can make/receive voice calls and send/receive SMS messages while connected to a WiFi network when roaming outside the US. They can eliminate INTERNATIONAL roaming fees if their device is set up correctly to support WiFi Talk and Text. Can a Customer use E911 while roaming internationally? It’s not advised a Customer use WiFi Talk and Text when roaming internationally to receive emergency assistance. Note: ‘911’ is NOT the Emergency calling code for many other countries – as an example China, England and India all have different Emergency service numbers, a Customer should check with travel.state.gov to confirm the emergency contact number if the country they are planning on traveling to. And we recommend a Customer uses a local landline/ payphone in the event they need to call emergency services. How can I activate WiFi Talk and Text for a Customer?
