HERONS IN THE CLASSIC—In seven appearances in the Wendy’s College Classic, William Smith has a 17-2 record (.895). The Herons won the tournament in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 2000 and placed third in 1999 and 2010. With Tuesday’s victory over Nazareth, William Smith improved to 7-0 all time in the Wendy’s College Classic first round. SERIES SNAPSHOT—Since the start of the 1988-89 season, William Smith and Rochester have squared off 24 times. The Yellowjackets, who have won 12 in a row against the Herons, lead the series 15-9, but William Smith is 2-1 against Rochester on neutral courts. WHEN LAST WE MET—On Dec. 11, 2010, at the Palestra, KRISTEN KUSH and JACQUELINE MURPHY produced double-doubles for William Smith. Kush recorded 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Murphy had a team-high 15 points and 10 boards. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to overcome the depth of then 11th-ranked Rochester. Melissa Alwardt led the Yellowjackets to a 74-51 victory with team-highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds. CLOSE QUARTERS—William Smith advanced to the Wendy’s semifinals with a 60-55 overtime victory at Nazareth. LIZ DOUGLASS matched her career-high with 20 points and produced a career-high six steals and JACQUELINE MURPHY added 11 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. The Herons led by as many as 15 points in the first half, but needed to erase a four-point deficit in the final two minutes to force overtime. The Golden Flyers took a 55-53 lead with the first bucket of OT, but William Smith scored the final seven points of the game, all from the free throw line, to close out the victory. GOOD POINT—After her second straight 20-point night, LIZ DOUGLAS is averaging team-high 17.7 ppg. She shot 7-of-13 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free throw line against Nazareth on Tuesday. Douglass also produced 20 points 10 days earlier in a victory over Keuka. She ranks HERONS’ RECORD WHEN third in the Liberty League in scoring and second in steals with a team-high 11. Overall LL STANDING TALL—Sophomore JACQUELINE MURPHY leads the Liberty League in rebounding, averaging 12.7 caroms per contest. Three other players in the conference are averaging double digit boards, 6-foot Colleen O’Connell of Vassar (10.7), 6-foot-4 Hillary McKinley of RPI (10.0), and 5-foot-11 Kristyn Tempora of Vassar (10.0). Murphy? She stands just 5-foot-4. SHARP SHOOTER—Junior SYDNI SALVATORE is shooting a team-best 55.6 percent from the floor (min 2.0 FGM/g). She’s second on the team in scoring, producing 12.0 ppg. TRIPLE THREAT—California native SASHA BORENSTEIN is well acquainted with dialing long distance. She’s tied for the Liberty League lead, draining 4.0 3-pointers per game. Borenstein is connecting on 42.3 percent of her tries from behind the arc this season, while her career 3-point shooting percentage of .387 would be the third best ever by a Heron. DEAN OF DISH—Junior JAIMIE RUBIN leads three Herons ranked in the top 15 in assists in the Liberty League. She’s handing out 5.33 helpers a night, which is second in the conference. Sophomores JACQUELINE MURPHY (4.0 apg, 5th) and ERIN O’BRIEN (2.67 apg, t-14th) are also among the league leaders.

HERONS IN THE CLASSIC—In seven appearances in the Wendy’s College Classic, William Smith has a 17-2 record (.895). The Herons won the tournament in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 2000 and placed third in 1999 and 2010. With Tuesday’s victory over Nazareth, William Smith improved to 7-0 all time in the Wendy’s College Classic first round. SERIES SNAPSHOT—Since the start of the 1988-89 season, William Smith and Rochester have squared off 24 times. The Yellowjackets, who have won 12 in a row against the Herons, lead the series 15-9, but William Smith is 2-1 against Rochester on neutral courts. WHEN LAST WE MET—On Dec. 11, 2010, at the Palestra, KRISTEN KUSH and JACQUELINE MURPHY produced double-doubles for William Smith. Kush recorded 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Murphy had a team-high 15 points and 10 boards. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to overcome the depth of then 11th-ranked Rochester. Melissa Alwardt led the Yellowjackets to a 74-51 victory with team-highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds. CLOSE QUARTERS—William Smith advanced to the Wendy’s semifinals with a 60-55 overtime victory at Nazareth. LIZ DOUGLASS matched her career-high with 20 points and produced a career-high six steals and JACQUELINE MURPHY added 11 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. The Herons led by as many as 15 points in the first half, but needed to erase a four-point deficit in the final two minutes to force overtime. The Golden Flyers took a 55-53 lead with the first bucket of OT, but William Smith scored the final seven points of the game, all from the free throw line, to close out the victory. GOOD POINT—After her second straight 20-point night, LIZ DOUGLAS is averaging team-high 17.7 ppg. She shot 7-of-13 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free throw line against Nazareth on Tuesday. Douglass also produced 20 points 10 days earlier in a victory over Keuka. She ranks HERONS’ RECORD WHEN third in the Liberty League in scoring and second in steals with a team-high 11. Overall LL STANDING TALL—Sophomore JACQUELINE MURPHY leads the Liberty League in rebounding, averaging 12.7 caroms per contest. Three other players in the conference are averaging double digit boards, 6-foot Colleen O’Connell of Vassar (10.7), 6-foot-4 Hillary McKinley of RPI (10.0), and 5-foot-11 Kristyn Tempora of Vassar (10.0). Murphy? She stands just 5-foot-4. SHARP SHOOTER—Junior SYDNI SALVATORE is shooting a team-best 55.6 percent from the floor (min 2.0 FGM/g). She’s second on the team in scoring, producing 12.0 ppg. TRIPLE THREAT—California native SASHA BORENSTEIN is well acquainted with dialing long distance. She’s tied for the Liberty League lead, draining 4.0 3-pointers per game. Borenstein is connecting on 42.3 percent of her tries from behind the arc this season, while her career 3-point shooting percentage of .387 would be the third best ever by a Heron. DEAN OF DISH—Junior JAIMIE RUBIN leads three Herons ranked in the top 15 in assists in the Liberty League. She’s handing out 5.33 helpers a night, which is second in the conference. Sophomores JACQUELINE MURPHY (4.0 apg, 5th) and ERIN O’BRIEN (2.67 apg, t-14th) are also among the league leaders.
