Creative Fundraiser at Isaac Brock School Isaac Brock’s We Create Change Campaign is 100% AWESOME! Isaac Brock School has decided to hold a loonie drive for the 100th day of school for the Year of Empowerment! Shona R. explains: “We chose loonies because we are having our 100th day of the school year on February 11th. The students are making posters to go along with the We Create Change campaign posters that are in the WE DAY kit. Each of our twelve classrooms will have a decorated canister to hold the loonies. Each of the five days prior to the 100th day a member of our Leadership Group will give a fact to support the campaign (for example one goat can produce 16 cups of milk per day).” What a great way to build leadership skills for your social justice group by having them take charge on sharing what empowerment means with their school community! Good work Isaac Brock School!
We Bake for Change has an Incredible Impact on Students at Riverbend Community School Riverbend Community School held a bake sale for goats to have a lasting impact on Kenya! The bake sale was a huge success, with the school raising over $580! Here are some of the students’ thoughts on the event:
“The bake sale was really awesome because I know I'm
doing something that might not change the world but for that family the world changes. To me that's pretty awesome." "It was fun and people are so generous! I loved the feeling I got." "It was a very big responsibility. It was fun helping other people."
Congrats to Sara B. and Christine W. at Riverbend Community School for helping to inspire their students to create change!
dedication to breaking the cycle of poverty. Good work Lord Nelson School, family and friends!
Beaverlodge Earth Council Proposes a We 365 Challenge! Are you up for it?!
We Create Change Updates Lord Nelson School has been incredibly successful with their We Create Change Campaign. The Student Empowerment Group taught their school about Empowerment and how goats provide an alternative source of income at assemblies and by creating posters, like the one pictured above! They initially wanted to send 10 goats to Kenya, but have now raised enough to send almost 20 goats! Pat A. runs her Grade 6 Student Empowerment group and shared how much compassion and care her students have demonstrated when working on this campaign, by giving up recesses to make posters and communicating information beyond the school environment by reaching out to the community. We at Free the Children would also like to thank all Lord Nelson School students, adults and community that work with Lord Nelson School, as well as Judianne J. and Clara H.-K. for your
You have probably seen some communications from me regarding Beaverlodge Earth Council’s WE 365 app challenge. Have you thought about signing up? I am encouraging schools to make a school account (as opposed to student accounts) so that they can share on social media all of the wonderful things they have been doing in Winnipeg! Go to We365.com to participate and follow Beaverlodge School
