EKC (K-5th) in October! October will be a busy month for EKC. On Oct. 6th, we'll kick off "pumpkin season" by painting and decorating pumpkins which will be for sale at our pumpkin patch this year. These festive pumpkins will surely be the first to go! Wear old clothes. On Oct. 13th, we will be preparing for the Bishop's visit by discussing his role in our church and making special art to welcome him back to St. Peter's. On October 20th, we'll have our first service oriented project of the year. The EKC'ers will be creating "lovepacks" for local school children. What are "Lovepacks" you might ask? They consist of nutritious, non-perishable food that are sent home on Fridays to students who might otherwise not have food at home on weekends. WE NEED YOUR HELP. Please bring any of the following items: Cereal/Nutragrain bars, Granola bars, individual cups of fruit, applesauce, vegetables, soup, raviolis, tuna, spagettios, or vienna sausages (all with pop tops). There will be a large container in corner of parish hall that says LOVEPACKS. We will need MANY (100+) items to fill the needed packs so please consider buying a few of these at your next visit to the grocery store. And finally, on Oct. 27th, we will honor All Saints’ Day with a bonfire & a special treat.

What can I expect at a Happening weekend? During the Happening weekend there are activities designed for fun and Christian community building among participants. Throughout the weekend a series of talks are presented by youth and clergy to logically present the elements that define a mature profession of faith and the catechism process. The presentation of key talks by youth using personal life experiences is intended to offer Christ’s message to attending Happeners on a level they can understand, and to answer many of the faith questions youth struggle with daily. Talks about church teachings and their importance in the lives of youth attending the weekend are presented by clergy in a fair and friendly manner. Each talk is a critical building block in the creation of the Happening message. The entire series of talks is given in a sequence that is intended to guide Happeners by opening an avenue of discussions to help them verbalize and internalize their faith questions in a safe environment and hopefully lead to a renewed or new relationship with Christ. –National Happening.org

St. Francis of Assisi (October 4): Many have little statues of him with a bird on his finger in their backyards, because he is the patron saint of animals, and once preached to the birds—who apparently paid close attention! But it wasn’t just animals that Francis loved, it was all of Creation: Brother Sun, Sister Moon, Brother Fire, Sister Water…even Sister Death. He appreciated all of God’s gifts to us humans. Francis also knew that human beings can be like wild animals, if they don’t keep their lives centered on God. --adapted from Folk Like Me: the Read-Aloud Book of Saints

…have enjoyed working the games as well as taking chances on Tombola and the other many fun activities at Fun in the Country! Seven of us traveled to Camp Bratton-Green for Sr. High DOY where the theme was about choosing what is right v. what is easy. We played an enthusiastic game of Ultimate Frisbee in the Grove and have begun discussions for our plan to raise $1,000 (maybe $2,000!) to sponsor a cabin (or two!) at Camp Bratton-Green for a year. In Sunday School the Jr. High have been learning about the Trinity and the Sr. High have been delving into some tough questions! Prayer Breakfast is still going strong! We had so many students that we had to recruit extra drivers to help us all get to school on time! We’re looking forward to the arrival of the pumpkins and what other fun things October will bring!
