WJEC AS & A Level German
WJEC AS & A Level German Course Overview Studying AS and A level German will encourage students to: develop an interest in, and enthusiasm for, language learning develop understanding of the language in a variety of contexts and genres communicate confidently, clearly and effectively in the language for a range of purposes develop awareness and understanding of the contemporary society,cultural background and heritage of countries or communities where the language is spoken.

a. Leisure and Lifestyles, including travel and tourism, sport, hobbies, entertainment, customs, traditions, healthy living – health and nutrition, diet and exercise; unhealthy living - drugs, aids, smoking, alcohol, etc
c. Environmental Issues, including technology, pollution, global warming, transport, energy, nuclear energy, renewable energies, conservation, recycling, sustainability.
b.The Individual and Society, including relationships and responsibilities, gender issues, youth culture (values, peer groups, fashions and trends etc.), education, vocational training and future careers.
d. Social and Political Issues, including the role of the media, racism, immigration social exclusion and integration, terrorism, world of work (employment, commerce, globalization, etc.),
Assessment AS
A2 (the above plus a further 2 units)
Paper 1 (20% 12-15 minutes 60 raw marks; 80 UMS marks) • Oral • Examiner-led discussion of topics • General conversation

Entry Requirements Standard Level 3 entry requirements – at least 5 GCSEs A*-C including English Language & Maths. Plus a Grade B in German GCSE (Higher Tier).
Progression In an increasingly globalized world, a German A Level and/or degree gives students access to the language, culture, and marketplace of three leading European nations: Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. Together, the inhabitants of these three countries, combined with native speakers in other regions of the globe, make German the most spoken language in the European Union and the tenth most spoken language in the world.
