WOMEN’S TRIATHLON QUICK FACTS • Women’s Triathlon will be a fall season sport. • Women’s Triathlon is a draft-legal sprint race consisting of a 750m Swim, 20k Bike, and a 5k Run. • Draft-legal racing: no minimum distance is required between competing athletes during any part of the race. • In 2014, over 2,000 triathletes between the ages of 14 and 19 competed in a USA Triathlon sanctioned triathlon. • In 2015, 186 USA Triathlon Certified Collegiate Club teams exist and compete in the Collegiate Club Triathlon season. • Up to two coaches can be hired to oversee all disciplines, while the institution may use the services of one volunteer coach per discipline. • NCAA-specific waves, where intercollegiate competitions take place with its own separate start time to separate student-athletes from the general public, can be implemented in pre-existing triathlon competitions. This reduces the financial responsibility that the institution would incur if hosting an event. USA Triathlon, the official governing body for the sport of triathlon in the U.S., can assist with identifying races.
