WOODSTOCK AVALANCHE Woodstock Avalanche is a competitive full-time travel baseball organization based in Woodstock School District 200. Our primary goal is to give players the opportunity to develop their skills to their highest potential and compete at a premier level of competition at a very reasonable cost. Each age group will play regular season games in Northern Illinois and participate in various local and regional tournaments. Our program fees vary by age, but are typically almost half as much as other travel programs in the area. We keep our costs very low through sponsorships, advertising and fundraising events. Our coaching staff is very experienced and knowledgeable and all have played or coached at a very high level of organized baseball, with many playing college and minor league baseball.

Woodstock Avalanche baseball is very fortunate to be aligned with volunteer coaches that have both played and coached at very high levels. Members of our coaching staff have been involved at all levels of high school, college and professional play. Our coaching staff has achieved a high level of baseball success including winning an NAIA World Series and playing in the minor leagues. Is travel baseball expensive? In many organizations, yes it is very expensive. Many travel organizations pay coaches to manage their teams. Woodstock Avalanche baseball is very reasonable in cost. This includes your uniform, indoor practice time and all league and tournament fees. We are very fortunate to have high quality coaches and managers that volunteer their time. We also offset costs through an annual fundraiser and corporate sponsorships. Do I have to travel long distances to play for Avalanche? No, all of our games are typically an hour or less travel time. We are very fortunate in Northern Illinois that there are many highly competitive tournaments in the local region. All of our home games will be played on fields in Woodstock. Does my kid really need to play travel baseball? That depends. If your player is very focused and wants to play high school or college baseball, then yes, playing on the Woodstock Avalanche is a definite advantage. We work closely with the local high schools to prepare players for IHSA baseball. On the other hand, if your player is interested in having a great time in a local recreational league, then Woodstock Little League is the place to be. How long is the season? We begin practicing in February with games beginning in April. The younger age levels will play 30-35 games with the older age groups playing over 50 games. The season completes towards the end of July. What is the process to play on an Avalanche team? Tryouts are held annually in August for the next season. Practices begin in February with games beginning in April. You will try out for the age that you will be on April 30th of the next year. Our website will post the tryout dates by late July every year. If you missed the tryout deadline and are interested in playing Avalanche baseball, contact us and we can schedule an individual tryout. Is Avalanche associated with Woodstock Little League? Players that make an Avalanche travel team will not play little league. They will play Avalanche baseball full time. However, we have a great relationship with WLL and work in conjunction to serve the entire Woodstock community. Both organizations serve very distinct and valuable purposes in an effort to provide a fantastic baseball experience for all the kids in Woodstock. Many kids are looking for a fun, baseball experience with their friends. WLL is a no-cut league that is community based and structured to provide this. Other kids are looking to improve their skills in a highly driven setting and want to focus on becoming a solid baseball player to progress into high school and beyond. Avalanche provides this highly competitive environment for those kids.
