WOODSTOCK SUMMER SQUALL ADDITIONAL 8U TOURNAMENT RULES 1. A game consists of 5 innings, subject to time limit. 2. An 11” soft covered softball will be used. 3. Coach will pitch to their own team. 4. Coaches will throw 5 pitches to each batter. The batter is allowed to swing and miss at all 5 pitches; she

will not be out until after the 5th pitch. A foul ball/tip on the 5th or subsequent pitches allows an additional pitch. The AB will be completed when the ball is hit, the batter swings and misses on the 5th or subsequent pitch, or the batter allows the ball to pass without offering at the 5th or subsequent pitch. 5. Pitching distance will be 30 feet. 6. Maximum of 7 runs per inning. Unlimited runs may be scored in the last inning. 7. Look back rule is NOT in effect. 8. No stealing. 9. Lead offs are allowed after the ball crosses home plate. Leaving the base early could result in an out. 10. Drop 3rd strike rule is NOT in effect. 11. Infield fly rule is NOT in effect. 12. No bunting. It is the umpires call to decide if a bunt was attempted. 13. There is no minimum distance that a batted ball must travel as long as a full swing was attempted. 14. Defense will consist of 10 players. Outfielders must start in the outfield grass. They may enter

the dirt area after the ball crosses the plate. The short center fielder may start in the dirt area but must be at least 5 feet behind 2nd base. 15. Each and every girl must play a minimum of one inning on defense. 16. Unlimited runs in the last inning. 17. Defensive coaches will be allowed on the field. They should be in the left and right field grass. 18. The pitching coach can instruct the batter and the runner before and during a play. 19. A play to the outfield will conclude when a ball is UNDER CONTROL in the infield. Runners must be

beyond ½ way to the next base to be awarded that base. Any runner that is less than ½ way to the next base will be asked to return to the previous base. 20. Base running – A runner can only advance the number of bases that a batter advances. (e.g. a base

runner on 1st can go to 3rd on a double by the batter, a base runner on 1st can score only on a triple, and a runner on 2nd can score on a double or greater by the batter) Rule 21 is the only exception to this rule. 21. Advance on overthrows at 2nd only, one base and at the runner’s discretion. An advance by another

player is not possible. (e.g. runner on first can try to advance to third on an overthrow at 2nd, however the batter has to stay at first). 22. Pitcher fielding position must be within the circle to the left or right of the coach pitcher. 23. Pitcher fielding position must wear protective headgear.

Woodstock Summer Squall 2017 General Tournament Rules Format: 1. Monday, July 10th 2017 - Sunday, July 16th 2017. 2. Tournament may be Pool Play or Round Robin. 3. Tournament Registration Form, Fee and Proof of Insurance must all be

received when registering for the tournament. 4. All rosters must be handed in to the Tournament Director PRIOR to the first game. Managers must keep a government-issued birth certificate (photocopies are acceptable) for every rostered player until the tournament ends. These must be made available upon request. NO EXCEPTIONS. Please adhere to this or a forfeit will result. 5. A girl may only be on one roster for the entire tournament. If she is found to violate this rule, those teams will be disqualified. 6. Coin flip prior to each game will determine home team. 7. All players must be appropriate age as of January 1, 2017. 8. Rosters are frozen after the first pitch of the first game. 9. Brackets for games will be posted at the concession stand and on our web site: www.woodstockgirlssoftball.org 10. No full-time “travel” teams or players. Any organization, team, or player registered and classified by any softball sanctioning body (i.e. ASA, NAFA, USFA, etc) with a USSSA “A” or “B” or equivalent classification will be denied participation. ANY TEAM IN VIOLATION OF THIS RULE WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE TOURNAMENT. 11. In the event of rain, games will be re-scheduled by the Woodstock Girls Softball League Tournament Director. 2. Limit of 15 individual trophies. Game Time Limits: 1. Approaching 1 hour and 30 minutes, the umpire will instruct both teams that the last inning is drawing near. 2. No inning shall start after 1 hour and 30 minutes. 3. There will be a 1 hour and 45 minute "drop dead" time limit. After 1 hour and 45 minutes, play will revert back to the previous full inning and the score at that juncture of the game will be the final score. 4. In the event of a tie score at that point, the international tie breaker rule will take effect. Each 1/2 inning, the offensive team shall begin its turn at bat with the player who is scheduled to bat last in that respective half inning being placed on second base. The inning will start this way with nobody out. Play continues for a full inning(s) until the tie is broken. 5. Games in the trophy round (i.e., the final two games, which determine 1st place trophy winner and 3rd p l a c e medal winner) will have no time limit, and play will continue until a winner is determined, with no international tiebreaker rule. replacement will be the last batted out. 5 warm-up pitches are allowed per pitcher per inning. One coach visit to the mound is allowed per pitcher per game. On any subsequent visits, the pitcher must be changed. 10-run advantage rule is in effect after 4-1/2 innings. Teams may not practice on the infield before the start of the game. There are no warm-ups for the infield after the 1st inning.

Pitching Rules: 1. One pitch constitutes an inning pitched. 2. The starting pitcher may retake the mound only once after being relieved during a

game. Relief pitchers may not re-enter the pitching position. 3. A pitcher will be warned by the umpire after two hit batters. Upon the third hit batter, the pitcher must be removed. The removed pitcher may not re-enter the game as a pitcher. 4. Pitchers must wear protective headgear.

Additional Rules: 1. Failure to field a team of 8 girls at game time will result in a forfeit. 2. Home team shall keep the official scorebook. Both managers shall sign the supplied score sheet and return it to the tournament desk immediately after completion of the game. 3. ASA rules will be followed, including re-entry rule. 4. Continuous batting order and all players in the line-up must bat. If a girl cannot continue in the game due to injury or illness, she will be scratched from the lineup. The player will not be considered an out each time her turn comes up to bat. If a player gets injured during her at bat and she cannot finish that at bat, she is an out. 5. Free substitution for fielding. 6. No jewelry can be worn on the playing field. NO EXCEPTIONS – NO TAPE. 7. Metal cleats are NOT allowed. 8. Multi-walled bats are NOT allowed. 9. All base runners are required to slide into a base where a play is being made in order to avoid contact or a collision. Failure to attempt to avoid contact will result in an out and a possible ejection from the game/tournament. 10. Managers and coaches are required to ask for and receive time-out PRIOR to going on the field. Failure to do so may result in a warning or ejection from the game. 11. Managers are required to have their team ready to play on time. Also, they are to give a starting line-up to the home plate umpire and the opposing team scorekeeper at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled game time. The home team is the official scorekeeper. 12. Intentional walks are not permitted. If the umpire declares an intentional walk, he may warn the pitcher and manager and advance each runner one base for each subsequent pitch not thrown in or near the strike zone. 13. Any unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated. This may result in a forfeit of that game. 14. Chanting is NOT allowed. Players may only use positive encouragement directed toward their own teammates.
