achel Blackburn was born on March 16, 1990 and has been a part of WPBC since the fall of 2010, when her mother, Valerie, and grandparents, Wendell and Emily Foss, began attending here.
She’s traveled to Mexico five times to build houses, or to work on a church. Over a period of 10 months in 20132014, she lived in a program called the Pink House, located downtown.

Rachel was raised in the church, and has spent seasons of her life observing things from different angles and perspectives.
During her tenure there, she participated in an all-volunteer advocacy group, No More Slumlords, and has continued working with them.

Rachel, continued from page 1
A self-described “proud introvert,” Rachel loves spending time in the mountains, drawing portraits, driving her green Chevy Silverado, and spending time with her best friend and boyfriend, Erik Chu. Her friends describe her as: Loving, caring, supportive, uplifting, quiet, compassionate, fun, animal-loving, goofy, sweet, thoughtful, selfless, responsible, calming, adventurous, honest, reliable, giving, strong—and shy! Speaking of her shyness, she said, “I would rather jump out of a plane than go to a social event!” During one very difficult season of her life, she knew without a doubt that the Lord was with her, and that He was carrying her through it. “I knew He didn’t want me to go through it, but He was with me,” she insisted. “I can’t explain, but I didn’t fear, and I knew I would be taken care of. And I have been. Everything did not work out. I do not believe everything happens for a reason. But Christ did, and does, redeem these situations,” she said. She said that Christ constantly reminds her not to be self-centered, and to pursue a just life. “Jesus has shown me in many ways that I am valuable. Most of all, he has lifted me up, and encouraged me to be strong.” Rachel credits her mother, Valerie, for inspiring her most in life. “She is a strong woman of integrity, faith, and patience. She stays classy through all situations of life, and her faith is undeniable and inspiring. She has taught me how to work hard, and to be strong, humble, and selfless as all women are created to be,” she said.

PLEASE NOTE: Many of you have committed to increased giving for 2015. You may have signed a pledge card stating a specific amount that you pledged to give over and above what your giving was in 2014. When you give toward your pledge, please mark that part of your gift, "2015 Pledge." That way we can record this gift on your quarterly giving statement and it will be recorded separately from your regular tithe.

About 90 people attended our breakfast extravaganza on Sunday,
May 17. We listened to a short devotion, enjoyed fellowship, and played a get-to-know-you mixer game! Thanks to everyone who participated and volunteered with set-up, clean-up, and preparing all the goodies!
s you may know, we’ve had some changes in our Children’s Ministry Leadership. Debbie and John Martin, who have done such a great job with our Children’s Church Program, have had to step down. Norma Ingle will now be leading our Sunday School Program and I will move to Children’s Church. Joanie Carothers remains with Sunday Night Programs and VBS. We would appreciate your prayers as our Search Committee continues to seek God’s leading for a new staff person to lead with our Children’s
Ministry. Pray also for more volunteers. We have several openings during the 9:00 Sunday School hour, and 10:30 service. If you are interested in helping, or know of someone who is, please let me know. Summer is often a busy time with vacations, etc., but I encourage you to stay faithful in church attendance when you are in town. Our kids need consistency in Bible learning in order to grow in their relationship with God. - Carol Schmierer
